10 Beautiful Flowering Succulents – Garden Lovers Club

When it comes to my garden, I have always had an easy time growing any type of flowers that I wanted to grow. On the front side of my house, there is barely any shade, so I thought that a rock garden with a lot of flowering succulents would look great in the space. This is a type of plant that is not going to need a lot of care to grow, and most succulents are drought-resistant plants that will make gardening seem easy .  In this guide, we are going to take a look at 10 of the most beautiful flowering succulents that you can find on the market so that you can create your own creation.

    Christmas Cactus

A Christmas Cactus is a tropical plant that can handle the heat. It is best in temperatures that are between 65 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit. It will grow in moderate sunlight, and it prefers a bit of humidity to thrive. This is a plant that will grow well in sandy soil, and the pink, purple, or red blooms can be seen around the holidays, which makes them a very popular plant to grow in zones nine through 11. If you are having trouble getting the plant to bloom, then it may need more daylight.

    Peanut Cactus

A peanut cactus is a plant that features a bright orange bloom that will appear during the spring of the year. It is a plant that grows best in zones 10 through 12. This cactus has relatively shallow roots, which helps create thick fingers that are shaped a lot like peanuts. They can easily grow to be six inches tall, but they tend to grow out instead of up, and they can grow to be up to 12 inches wide. In most locations, they grow best in full sun, but hotter areas may require a bit of shade.

    Aloe

This is a succulent that is great to grow in your home because the juice inside the leaves is great for cuts and burns. In addition, this can be a very beautiful plant that can easily be grown in indirect light. It is a plant that is not going to need to be watered a lot, so to make sure that your plant does not sit in water, you should only give the plant fresh water every three weeks. It will grow best in zones nine through 11.

    Orchid Cactus

Growing best in zones 10 and 11, this is a hardy plant that can grow from five to 10 inches across easily. This is a plant that does not bloom very often; in fact, it typically blooms during the night time just a few times a year. You will notice that this is a plant that will not create blooms during the first two years of growth. Typically, this is a plant that will produce flowers on its own, but give them more light, give them potassium fertilizer, and keep the plant in the same location to grow.

    Moon Cactus

This is a plant that is recognizable by the pink, orange, and yellow blooms that it produces. This is also a cactus that does not require a lot of water. In fact, you will always want to be careful when you are giving the plant a drink so that it does not become overly saturated and soggy. Moon Cactus are quite unique; they are typically a single stalk with a bright bulb on the top of their head.  This is also another plant that you will find in zones 10 and 11. The leaves of this succulent are rather gorgeous, and it requires minimal care to grow. I have found that this group grows best with a mixture that is slightly more peat moss than perlite. Do not allow the plant to sit in the water because this can only cause problems for the plant. If you have pets, this is a plant that may be unsafe to grow around them.

    Crassula (Jade Plant)

This is another tropical succulent that is going to produce beautiful pink, purple, and white blooms. It will grow best in zones nine through 11, and with the right care, it can grow to be four to six feet tall. It is a drought-tolerant plant that does not require a lot of water, but it does need to have full sun to really thrive. Another feature that makes this a very pretty plant to have around is the blue-green foliage that has tips that change in color to maroon or burgundy.

    Crown of Thorns

Seen most often in zones nine through 11, this is a lovely plant that produces bright red blooms from early spring until late summer. It prefers to grow in temperatures that are between 60 and 96 degrees Fahrenheit. This is a succulent that will do best with a lot of indirect sunlight. It also requires very little water, so make sure that the top of the soil is dry before you give it more.

    Carrion Cactus

Also known as a starfish flower, this is a cactus that has large five-point blooms. The flower itself may look nice, but it actually does not smell all that pleasant. Typically, the flowers are red in color, but they can be more of a brown on some plants. This is a plant that grows best in well-drained soil, and unlike most succulents on this list, it will need to have moist soil to grow.

    Opuntia (Prickly Pear Succulent)

This is a succulent that is known to grow well in warm, dry climates. It is often found in zones nine through 11, but some varieties can be found in a wider spread. They grow best in full sun and well-drained soil. In addition, during the months of June and July, you will be able to see red, yellow, and purple blooms. The fruit can also be a variety of colors, which include green, red, orange, and yellow.

  • Lara Trump Says Threatening Don Jr. With Jail Won’t ‘Make Hillary Clinton President’ | Daily Wire

Lara Trump Says Threatening Don Jr. With Jail Won’t ‘Make Hillary Clinton President’ | Daily Wire

All the Democrats’ threats subpoenas and votes for contempt are just payback for losing the election.

Lara Trump, senior advisor to the 2020 Trump campaign and wife of President Donald Trump’s son Eric, said on Fox News Thursday night that demanding Donald Trump Jr. testify before congress or face jail “is not going to make Hillary Clinton the president of the United States.”

Lara Trump told Fox News host Tucker Carlson on his nightly program, “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” that the special counsel investigation into whether the 2016 Trump campaign colluded with Russia “is over,” and that Trump Jr. testified previously.

In September 2017, Trump Jr. testified before members of the Senate Judiciary Committee behind closed doors — for hours. He was asked repeatedly about the infamous Trump Tower meeting where he, Jared Kushner, and Paul Manafort met with alleged Russians (who actually had ties to Democrat opposition research firm Fusion GPS) to get “dirt” on Clinton. In the end, no “dirt” was provided, and the meeting — which now looks more like entrapment — resulted in nothing.

Now, nearly two years later, Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr (R-NC) has sent a subpoena to Trump Jr., causing a rift in the Republican party. Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) said Trump Jr. “ought to be put in jail” if he doesn’t comply with the subpoena.

Lara Trump scoffed at the notion.

“We know [collusion] did not happen,” she told Carlson. “Whatever they think they’re going to do is not going to change that. It’s not going to make Hillary Clinton the president of the United States like I know they all wanted so badly for so long.”

Lara Trump added that she was “shocked and appalled” that Burr, a senator from her home state of North Carolina, would do such a thing.

“This is harassment of our family, harassment of the president,” she said.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller finished his investigation in March, finding no evidence of collusion and not enough evidence to recommend a charge of obstruction. Attorney General William Barr opted not to charge for obstruction, since the decision then fell to him.

Since then (and really, even before), Democrats have demanded to see the evidence for themselves, no doubt so that they can use it against President Trump and justify their continued discussions of impeachment. Democrats currently have around 22 investigations opened into Trump, his business, his finances, his campaign, and his family — all fishing expeditions to get back at him for winning the presidency over Clinton (and maybe even as revenge for leaving their party and becoming a Republican).

Trump won the election; Hillary Clinton did not. Trump’s presidency has been succeeding even with the Russian investigation looming over his head. Now he’s been cleared, and Democrats aren’t happy. Neither, it would appear, are some Republicans.

Canada’s labour market posts largest monthly jobs gain since 1976 – National | Globalnews.ca

Canada’s economy is reporting its biggest one-month employment surge since 1976, when the government started collecting comparable data.

Statistics Canada says the labour market added 106,500 jobs in April, the bulk of which were full time. The increase helped drop the unemployment rate to 5.7 per cent last month, down from 5.8 per cent in March.

The labour market has seen strong employment numbers since mid-2016 and has remained a bright spot for an economy that has struggled in other areas — to the point it almost stalled over the winter. Employment grew 0.6 per cent with the April increase, which was the highest proportional monthly expansion since 1994.

A closer look at the April numbers reveals the overall gain was driven by the creation of 73,000 full-time jobs and 83,800 positions in the private sector.

Fresh Wave of Tariffs Unleashed on China | IndustryWeek

President Donald Trump boosted tariffs Friday on $200 billion in goods from China and was preparing more in his most dramatic steps yet to extract trade concessions, further roiling financial markets and casting a shadow over the global economy.

China immediately said in a statement it is forced to retaliate, though hadn’t specified how as of 3:55 p.m. in Beijing. The move came after discussions between President Xi Jinping’s top trade envoy and his U.S. counterparts in Washington made little progress on Thursday, with the mood around them downbeat, according to people familiar with the talks. The negotiations were due to resume on Friday morning Washington time.

Asian stocks whipsawed in heavy trading. Chinese state-backed funds were reported jumping into the local market after shares slumped, and the Shanghai Composite closed up 3.1%. S&P 500 futures were down in London trading, putting U.S. stocks –- a key metric of performance in Trump’s own analysis — on course for the worst week since December.

The fresh wave of tariffs marked a sharp reversal from just last week, when U.S. officials expressed optimism that a pact was within reach.

Ahead of the talks on Thursday, Trump also said the U.S. would go ahead with preparations to impose 25% tariffs on a further $325 billion in goods from China, raising the prospect of all of China’s goods exports to the U.S. — which were worth about $540 billion last year — being subject to new import duties.

Such a move would take weeks to deploy. But it would have significant repercussions for the U.S., Chinese and global economies. Economists at Moody’s Analytics said in a report this week that an all-out trade conflagration between the world’s two-largest economies risked tipping the U.S. economy into recession by the end of 2020 just as voters go to the polls in the U.S.

The world’s two largest economies will both get pinched. Bloomberg Economics calculates the new increase will raise the drag on Chinese growth to 0.9 percentage point from 0.5 percentage point. The International Monetary Fund estimates the pullback on the U.S. expansion at about 0.2 point, and potentially more if there’s a blow to markets and confidence.

The new tariffs that took effect at 12:01 a.m. Washington time Friday raise from 10% to 25% the duties on more than 5,700 different product categories from China — ranging from cooked vegetables to Christmas lights and highchairs for babies.

U.S. officials have said the new duties — introduced on just five days’ notice — will not apply to goods already on boats headed for American shores. A 25% tariff is already in place on a further $50 billion in imports from China.

Some American industries were quick to decry Trump’s decision, which will hurt some of his key political constituencies, including farmers and manufacturers.

The tariffs will “suppress job gains for the industry by as much as 400,000 over 10 years. It will also invite China to hit back at American businesses, farmers, communities, and families,” said Kip Eideberg, vice president of government affairs for the Association of Equipment Manufacturers.

Meanwhile, talks were expected to continue. Chinese Vice Premier Liu He huddled with U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin in Washington on Thursday for about 90 minutes of talks before breaking and reconvening later for a working dinner that broke up around 8:40 p.m. Washington time.

Though talks are set to resume Friday, some close observers said they were not hopeful for any meaningful breakthroughs. One person familiar with the discussions said that U.S. officials were unsure whether Liu had the authority to make any meaningful commitments. It was also unclear whether China had resolved the internal debates that had led to last week’s rescinding of prior commitments to enshrine reforms agreed in Chinese law.

Ahead of the latest round of meetings, Liu told Chinese state media he was coming to Washington under pressure but “with sincerity” and warned that a move to raise tariffs by the U.S. starting Friday was not a solution.

Earlier on Thursday, Trump sought to calm U.S. financial markets after he insisted it was still possible to reach a deal this week, even as he reiterated plans to raise tariffs on Chinese goods. Trump, speaking at an event in Washington, also said he may hold a phone call with his Chinese counterpart, Xi. No call between the two leaders had taken place by late Thursday nor had one been scheduled, according to a senior Trump administration official.

“He just wrote me a beautiful letter, I just received it, and I’ll probably speak to him by phone, but look, we have two great alternatives, our country is doing fantastically well,” Trump said. “Our alternative is an excellent one, it’s an alternative I’ve spoken about for years. We’ve taken well over $100 billion from China in a year.”

    What Bloomberg’s Economists Say

“The trade truce, one of the pillars on which optimism about global growth is based, appears to be crumbling. We’ll see how talks in D.C. go on Friday. Assuming there’s no speedy resolution and higher tariffs remain in place, forecasts for global growth will be shaded down, with the main blow landing on China and its Asian neighbors.” — Tom Orlik, chief economist at Bloomberg Economics

China has disputed the U.S. characterization that the country reneged on prior commitments. But it has also sent its own signals that a deal could take time.

“There’s definitely disappointment and frustration” in China, said Zhu Ning, deputy director of the National Institute of Financial Research at Tsinghua University in Beijing. “We thought we were on a good path of making progress and having a deal.”

Trade data released Thursday showed the U.S. trade deficit with China decreased to the narrowest in almost three years as imports slowed and exports advanced. Strong gross domestic product and jobs numbers in recent weeks have also emboldened Trump.

“When people looked at the economic numbers, they were shocked. When they look at the import-export numbers they were shocked,” Trump said Thursday. “Try looking at all of the tariffs that China’s been paying us for the last eight months. Billions and billions of dollars.”

While Trump insists that the tariffs are paid for by China, most economists say the evidence shows that their cost is being absorbed by American companies and consumers.

  • ‘Star’ Canceled By Fox After 3 Seasons, Being Shopped To Other Outlets – Deadline

‘Star’ Canceled By Fox After 3 Seasons, Being Shopped To Other Outlets – Deadline

Fox’s music drama Star has been canceled after three seasons. Its producing studio, former Fox sibling 20th Century Fox TV, is already shopping it to other platforms.

Star’s cancellation is not unexpected. As we noted in our story yesterday on Fox’s decision to pick up four new drama series, with a fifth pending, the move did not bode well for the network’s bubble dramas Star, Lethal Weapon and The Passage. All of them were canceled today.

Created by Lee Daniels and Tom Donaghy, Star followed three talented singers – running from their pasts and desperate for a new start – with ambitions of stardom, as they navigate the cutthroat music business.

The series spent most of its run paired with Fox’s hip-hop family drama Empire. Family soap pilot Filthy Rich, whose series pickup at Fox is pending, is being eyed as a companion for Empire.

Star, which premiered onDecember 14, 2016 with Empire as its lead-in, starred Queen Latifah, Jude Demorest, Ryan Destiny, Brittany O’Grady, Amiyah Scott and Quincy Brown. Scott became the third openly transgender person to play a major trans character in a scripted television drama series.

Star existed in the same musical universe as Empire and the two shows crossed over in the second season. The series also included a star-studded roster of guest stars including Lenny Kravitz, Naomi Campbell, Tyrese Gibson, Gladys Knight, Missy Elliott, Big Boi and Paris Jackson, who made her acting debut on the series.

That said, Star raked in solid numbers but hit a ratings low last November. The musical drama is expensive to produce, and its international sales have been challenging, which made the renewal decisions a bit more complex.

Daniels and Donaghy executive produce alongside Pamela Oas Williams. Karin Gist serves as showrunner and executive producer.

  • Cuba forced into rationing as US sanctions and Venezuela crisis bite | World news | The Guardian

Cuba forced into rationing as US sanctions and Venezuela crisis bite | World news | The Guardian

The Cuban government has announced that it is launching widespread rationing of chicken, eggs, rice, beans, soap and other basic products in the face of a grave economic crisis.

Betsy Díaz Velázquez, the commerce minister, told the state-run Cuban News Agency that various forms of rationing would be employed in order to deal with shortages of staple foods. She blamed the hardening of the US trade embargo by the Trump administration.

Economists give equal or greater blame to a plunge in aid from Venezuela, where the collapse of the state-run oil company has led to a nearly two-thirds cut in shipments of subsidised fuel that Cuba used for power and to earn hard currency on the open market.

“We’re calling for calm,” Díaz said, adding that Cubans should feel reassured that at least cooking oil would be in ample supply. “It’s not a product that will be absent from the market in any way.”

Shop shelves on the Caribbean’s largest island have been increasingly empty of late with scarcity of basic products such as eggs, flour and chicken, and massive, hours-long queues for them whenever they come into stock.

Cubans have been flooding social media with photos of the queues they are in, under the hashtag #lacolachallenge (queue challenge) to highlight the problem.

Cuba imports 60% to 70% of its food. A handful of agricultural reforms in recent years have failed to boost output and it also suffers from a decades-old US trade embargo.

A decline in aid from key ally Venezuela and lower exports have left it struggling to find the cash to import. More US sanctions since Donald Trump became president have worsened its liquidity crisis.

Diaz said another problem was hoarding by Cubans worried about whether products would disappear and speculators aiming to resell goods on the black market.

As a result Cuban supermarkets would from now on limit how much each person can buy of certain products like chicken and soap, she said. Other products such as eggs, rice, beans and sausages, would only be available to purchase with the ration card, and limited to a certain quantity each month.

“Our mission is to fracture all the measures the US government imposes, and today we are setting priorities,” Diaz said on the midday state-run news broadcast.

Some Cubans, particularly those on low state salaries and pensions who cannot afford black market prices, expressed relief.

“These measures are important for those Cubans most in need,” said pensioner Elizabeth Ortega, 72.

Others said it highlighted the mismanagement of the economy.

“These measures are a temporary remedy but they do not resolve Cubans’ problems in the long run,” said Ihosvany Perez Rodriguez, 34, who runs a small shop in Havana. “The country produces too little and so does not have enough money.”

The head of the Communist party, Raúl Castro, introduced a series of reforms around a decade ago in the hope of opening up and boosting the economy, which is one of the world’s last Soviet-style command economies.

However that reform drive has tapered off in recent years partly due to discontent with some of its consequences such as rising albeit still low inequality and less state control.

The move on Friday represents a setback to one of the proposed reforms, to end the universal rationing system, introduced just after the 1959 revolution.

  • How to choose the best survival knife

How to choose the best survival knife

How to choose the best survival knife – 5 things to remember

Salty’s Note: The following is written as a guest post by Billy of Perkin Knives. Beans, Bullets, Bandages and You doesn’t do affiliate links or advertising, but we do from time to time include guest posts from authors in the prepping and outdoors world that do. Knives are something I personally don’t know much about, so I welcomed an expert who does to write this.

As the term suggests, survival knives are what come to our rescue when all heck breaks loose on our camping or hunting adventures. Survival knives are one of the essentials that need to be carried by all adventure seekers whether you’re going on a small hiking trip, weekend camping or hunting.

The real question of which survival knife or pocket knife should you carry with you at all times is answered below with the top 5 things that you should keep in mind when choosing a survival knife.

    Size

Size is one of the most important factors to consider when choosing a survival knife for yourself. A big knife may not always be the right knife, especially not in situations that require you to think on your feet and act quickly and effectively. An average sized knife, of about 10 inches, seems to be good enough to do most of the tasks that require the use of a survival knife.

    Fixed vs. Folding Knife

A folding knife may seem more convenient to carry around but it’s not always the best choice of knife for survival situations. A fixed blade will always be more durable than a folding knife because it’s stronger and more sturdy. A folding knife will always fall short in performing tasks like pounding, chopping, thrusting, cutting etc.

    Full Tang

If you really want a survival knife to work in your favor and work well, then it’s important that you purchase a full tang knife. Along with being a fixed knife, your choice of survival knife should also be a full tang knife which means a knife is made of one constant piece of metal without any breaks in between. A full tang knife will be stronger and more robust than a partial tang knife. It provides a much stronger and comfortable grip which is very important when using a survival knife.

A partial tang knife can loosen its blades after tasks such as batoning, prying, chopping etc. Once the blade is loose from the handle in a partial tang knife, it will be very difficult for you to use it and perform any tasks. The same is not true in the case of a full tang knife. Even if the handle comes off in a full tang knife, you can still wrap it up with some cloth for grip and continue to use it.

There’s really no justification or reason why you should buy a partial tang blade when you’re investing in a survival knife. You want your survival knife to work effectively and perform well, this is only possible in a full tang knife because a full tang knife is one continuous piece of metal.

    Sharply Pointed

While this may seem like an obvious thing to keep in mind, when you go out to purchase survival knives, you may come across several knives that have angled, rounded, hooked or straight cut tips instead of sharp pointed tips. A survival knife should definitely have a sharply pointed tip because that makes it a better self defense tool and also makes it easier to stab or thrust through thick layered clothing, meat etc.

When it comes to hunting, you need a sharply pointed knife which you can either attach to a pole to create a long spear-like weapon or use as it is. A sharp pointed knife is more supportive and effective in tasks like drilling, notching, removing splinters, intricate prying, picking and more such tasks.

    Solid Pommel

Pommel is the bottom part of the handle of the knife, also known as the butt. A good survival knife should have a solid pommel so that you can do some light duty pounding and hammering if the need arises. A rounded or hooked pommel will not let you hammer or pound on the knife so make sure that you pay attention to the pommel of the knife and look for one that’s solid.

    Conclusion

It’s important to look for a knife that has all these characteristics so that you can make the most of your knife at the time of need. You don’t want to be carrying multiple tools or knives for different purposes, a survival knife should always be a multi-purpose knife which can be of use and help out in different kinds of survival situations.

Found en mass on the forest floor, pine cones are abundant and easy to source no matter the time of year. These little woody things come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, depending on the conifer tree they dropped from, and can be put to good use as a material for a variety of craft projects.

If you have a few evergreen trees in your yard, pine cones may seem like more of a nuisance than a gift. But pine cones are a free renewable resource with plenty of applications in the garden. Collecting them provides yet another ingenious way to garden for free.

    1. Make Pine Cone Mulch

Spreading a layer of mulch over your garden beds helps the soil retain moisture, suppresses weeds, keeps the ground cool, and makes an attractive cover for the bare earth. Using organic mulches also means that, as it breaks down and decomposes, nutrients will be released to improve soil fertility.

While wood chips, coconut husks, straw, and shredded bark are some of the mulch options available for purchase, stocking up on mulch can easily cost hundreds of dollars depending on the square footage of the area. Mulch should be applied at a depth of 2 to 3 inches, and needs to be reapplied every year or two.

A no cost alternative to bagged mulch is to use the waste your yard generates each year. Backyards are often abundant in several mulch worthy materials, like grass clippings, leaf mold, , pine needles, and pine cones.

In the natural environment, pine cones are tasked with distributing the conifer tree’s seeds; they open their scales to release the seeds during dry periods and close up again when wet. They can persist on the ground for years to repeat their reproductive cycle again and again. In the garden, this means they can be used as incredibly long lasting mulch that will take ages to decompose. They are also naturally resistant to mold and fungus.

You can mulch with pine cones by keeping them whole. Or you can break them up by processing them with a wood chipper or by running them over with a lawnmower. Another method is to simply smack them repeatedly with the back end a shovel – inelegant but very effective.

Because pine cones are somewhat acidic, use them around acid loving plants like blueberries and azaleas. Otherwise, you can sprinkle some baking soda on the ground as you apply the mulch to help neutralize soil pH.

    2. Add Pine Cones To Your Compost Pile

Pine cones are also an excellent source of carbon (or “browns”) in the compost heap. They are primarily composed of ash, lignans, and tannins, and once fully broken down, will add these beneficial elements to your finished hummus.

Although its slow degradation is great for mulch, in the compost pile you will want to hasten the process by chopping them into smaller pieces first. The smaller the better so for the quickest composting results, use a chipper or shredder to create a very fine, sawdust like consistency before adding it to the pile.

    3. Build A Ladybug Hotel

Like a world in miniature, the garden is home to a thriving population of insects. By encouraging certain beneficial bugs to call your garden plot home, you will be enlisting the help of numerous workers that will tirelessly pollinate your plants, decompose dead plant tissues, and prey on garden pests. And by simply letting nature do its work, you can avoid the use of pesticides and other harmful chemicals altogether.

One of the good guys, ladybugs are among the most sought-after garden residents. Don’t let their cuteness fool you, they are voracious hunters that will devour 50 or more aphids, mites, white flies, or scale insects per day.

Building a bug hotel is a great way to encourage ladybugs and other insects to stick around. While there are all sorts of scavenged materials you can use to give them a place to nest and hibernate – such as hollow reeds, branches, leaves, bark, and holes drilled in logs – pine cones are an excellent place for lady bugs to settle overwinter.

You can provide them a pine cone room in a multi insect abode. For a quick, ladybug dedicated fix, this DIY requires only chicken wire or netting, twine, and several pine cones; hang it near your garden in a sheltered area that is protected from heavy rain. Another option is to install a wall mounted planter (like this) and fill it with pine cones.

    4. Craft A Pine Cone Bird Feeder

Filling your backyard with activity and song, birds are not only pleasurable to watch, they also provide free pest control. Birds feed on caterpillars, grubs, mosquitoes, and beetles, and will often consume the seeds of weeds and other unwanted plants in the garden.

You can make your garden an attractive place for birds to hunt and raise their young by growing your own birdseed. And an easy way to ensure they get their fill during the cooler months is to make a pine cone bird feeder.

Any pine cone will do but a large, round, and wide one will provide the best surface area. Remove a few of the pine cone’s scales to make some extra space for food. Slather the pine cone in peanut butter or suet and then roll it in your favorite birdseed mix. Tie it with twine or a decorative ribbon and hang from the bough of a tree.

    5. Use Pine Cones As A Container Filler

Large, deep planters can take bag after bag of soil to fill to the top. Not only is it expensive, most plant roots won’t reach the bottom of the pot so it’s also quite unnecessary.

While plastic bottles, rocks, and tin cans are some of the container filler options available to use, pine cones have a few advantages over these types of materials. Firstly, pine cones are light and won’t add extra weight to your pot if you need to move it. Second, pine cones are slow to decompose and will surely add bulk for the entire season. And lastly, when pine cones do break down, they add beneficial nutrients to the soil and won’t leach out chemicals like plastics or metals would.

When using pine cones to fill your containers, place them so they take up about one third of the space at the bottom of the pot.
