Anti-trump activists leave behind a mountain of litter after listening to ranting Corbyn blast Trump | Daily Mail Online

Call yourselves eco-warriors? Anti-trump activists leave behind a mountain of litter after listening to ranting Corbyn blast Trump and lecture him about the environment

Anti-Trump protesters have left behind swathes of litter after listening to Jeremy Corbyn slam the President for his stance on the environment.

Pictures from around Trafalgar Square and Parliament show discarded plaques and banners which had been left dumped on the floor as Trump Babysitters admitted that numbers were only in the tens of thousands.

Plenty of people braved the rain for the protests, but it was clear that there were not as many activists present, in comparison to his last visit in 2018.

250,000 gathered when Mr Trump visited the UK on July 13 last year.

During a speech with Theresa May this afternoon, the President said it was ‘fake news’ that protests had been taking place in the capital.

Piles of banners and signs were left on the side of the road close to Parliament today

The entrance of Westminster Station was full up with litter this afternoon as rush hour got underway

Rubbish trucks were pictured hitting the streets following the protests with this collector chucking rubbish in

He said: ‘We left the Prime Minister, the Queen, the royal family, there were thousands of people on the streets cheering. Even coming over today there were thousands cheering.

‘Then I heard there were protests, I said ‘Where are the protests? I don’t see any protests’. I did see a small protest today when I came – very small – so a lot of it is fake news I hate to say.’

Climate change activists, students, pacifists, trade union members and families all gatherered, while the protesters will include Handmaids Against Trump – women who will be draped in red with white hoods in homage to Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel about a crackdown on reproductive rights.

Signs that read ‘Stop Trump’ and ‘Tories Out Now’ were left on pavements and roads as well as bottles and food wrappers.

Other signs had messages which read ‘Trump Climate Disaster’, other read ‘dump Trump’, and took their message quite literally when they dumped their litter across London.

This afternoon rubbish trucks were pictured on the streets of central London, as the cleanup begun.

MailOnline reader Lisa Sergent sent in a photo of abandoned placards on the ground, saying: ‘You call these eco-warriors?’

Protesters literally dumped their rubbish on the floors and left bits of paper and litter every where

Protesters march to Whitehall from Trafalgar Square this afternoon as they protest the state visit by President Trump

The President (above) had stood next to Theresa May during a speech at Westminster where he mentioned Jeremy Corbyn

During the protests Jeremy Corbyn hinted that the President wasn’t taking climate change seriously.

‘Can we stop treating people who travel for a place of safety, escape from oppression, from climate change-induced degradation or economic poverty to try to make their contribution to the world – don’t treat them as enemies, treat them as fellow human beings and citizens of this planet who deserve our support, our sympathy and our understanding.’

He mentioned his request to the UK government to declare a climate emergency across the whole planet and said we needed to protect the natural world.

‘If we are to protect the natural world and environment on which we all depend, then actions have to be taken.

‘A world dedicated to personal profit and greed, to mass exploitation and the most intensive forms of farming destroys the natural world, bit by bit by bit, that we all rely on.

‘Sixty per cent of wildlife has been lost in this country in the past 40 years and it’s getting faster and getting worse. The problems are galloping all around the world.’

He also mentioned the Paris climate change accord, which Trump famously snubbed.

Empty coffee cups, plastic bottles and even cigarette packets were left all over the pavement this afternoon

Satanic Temple Rejects Supreme Court Ruling on Aborted Baby Bodies, Claims Religious Freedom

The Satanic Temple (TST) has issued a defiant response to Tuesday’s US Supreme Court ruling that upheld the Indiana law (HEA 1337) requiring burial or cremation of fetal remains.  The Satanists say their members are immune from the law due to freedom of religion and will argue a federal law passed in 1993 will uphold their claim.

The Arkansas Times Magazine reports the TST, which is headquartered in Salem, Mass., believes non-viable fetal tissue is part of the woman who carries it, even though science proves that every so-called fetus carries its own unique DNA and has a distinct and separate heartbeat from his or her mother.

Still, the Satanists say any state telling them how to dispose of the dead body is a violation of Satanic beliefs since the TST allows members to explore the termination of a pregnancy on their own terms.

As a result, the TST says this law violates their religious beliefs and their members may refuse to obey it.

Indiana law (HEA 1337) forbids hospitals, abortion clinics, and other healthcare facilities from disposing of fetal remains in sanitary landfills and instead allowing only cremation or burial.

The TST argues their rights under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act  (RFRA) have been violated. The 1993 federal law is designed to protect religious freedom when a religious practice conflicts with the laws of the state.

“To be clear, members of The Satanic Temple will not be made to pay for these punitive, superfluous, and insulting burials. We claim exemption on religious liberty grounds, and we will almost certainly prevail in the courts if we are forced to fight,” said TST spokesperson Lucien Greaves in a statement.

In April, the TST was officially recognized by the US Internal Revenue Service as a church and were given tax-exempt status, according to Rolling Stone.

  • Shooter’s Resignation Letter

    Shooter’s Resignation Letter

Virginia Beach officials released the resignation letter of the city employee who killed 12 co-workers at a municipal building on Friday. As CBN News reported, in a press conference Sunday morning, City Manager Dave Hansen said the suspect was in the process of resigning from his position and confirmed a resignation letter had been sent via email. The suspect had not been terminated and was in good standing with his department, Hansen said. Now the letter has been released to the public. It reads simply:”It has been a pleasure to serve the City, but due to personal reasons I must relieve my position.”The letter gives no clue why he decided to attack his co-workers in that deadly mass shooting Friday afternoon. The shooter did confirm that Friday would be his last day at work.City officials say he was not facing any disciplinary action.Today, the city is reopening all municipal buildings, except for Building 2 where investigators are still at work gathering evidence.

According to the city news release, Building 2 will remain closed until further notice.  On Monday, the city held a service for city workers,
giving them the opportunity to share their emotions and receive counseling.  Drew Lankford, who works in Building 2, was out of the office when the attack happened. “My daughter who is in Building 1 next door, she called me and is sobbing, she’s on the floor under her desk and she says are you OK? And I’m saying yeah, I’m starting to panic, why? She says there’s an active shooter in Building 2.” This Thursday, the city will host a memorial service for employees and citizens at Rock Church in Virginia Beach. The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. A post by Rock Church states, “Praying for the overwhelming peace of God to flood the hearts and lives of everyone affected by this tragedy. Join us on Thursday for prayers and remembrance.”

Boston among most bed bug-infested cities, study finds

BOSTON (WHDH) – One of the largest pest control companies in the world is urging the public to be aware of bed bugs after releasing its 2019 rankings of the 50 most bed bug-infested cities in the United States.

Terminix looked at the number of services the company rendered in each city over the past year and found that Boston had the 10th worst bed bug problem.

The most bed bug infestations were found in Philadelphia, followed by New York, Dallas-Fort Worth, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Los Angeles, Cleveland, Washington, D.C., and Chicago.

Boston was the only Massachusetts city to make the list.

Matthew Stevenson, president of Terminix Residential says the pests “continue to pose concerns for public health.”

As summer travel approaches, Terminix experts warn that bed bugs aren’t only found in bedding and mattresses but also travel from place to place on personal belongings.

Terminix asks anyone staying at a hotel to check headboards, mattresses and box springs for live bed bugs, their exoskeletons and dark blood spots.

Those who suspect they have bed bugs should have their home inspected by a trained professional, as Terminix says bed bug infestations are extremely unlikely to be controlled by over-the-counter treatments.

  • Series of small quakes felt across Inland Empire, a ‘perennial hotspot’ for temblors

Series of small quakes felt across Inland Empire, a ‘perennial hotspot’ for temblors

A magnitude 3.3 earthquake was felt in parts of Southern California on Sunday afternoon, one in a series of quakes to hit the Riverside County area.  The latest quake occurred at 4:36 p.m. and was centered on Glen Avon, south of Fontana. The seismic activity continued into Monday morning with dozens of new small quakes.  According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quakes were felt across swaths of the Inland Empire, a region that has had hundreds of small quakes over the weekend, including one that registered a magnitude of 3.1.  On Friday, seismologist Lucy Jones wrote on Twitter that small earthquakes can be felt if they’re shallow — only 1 mile underground instead of 5 miles or more. She called the area a “perennial hotspot” of small, clustered quakes and nothing out of the ordinary for California.

It has been almost five years since California experienced its last earthquake of magnitude 6 or stronger. But scientists say the calm period will end, with warnings about seismic dangers ranging from the Big One on the San Andreas fault to catastrophes that could come from lesser-known faults, such as the Hayward or Newport-Inglewood.  Researchers also recently discovered that the state has experienced 10 times more earthquakes than previously known. They documented 1.8 million earthquakes in Southern California over the last decade, the vast majority so small that they had been undetectable to computing systems. Previously, only 180,000 earthquakes were on record for the last 10 years.  Scientists are now better able to identify previously undiscovered faults, detect patterns of moving earthquake swarms — like the one in Riverside County — and identify faint clusters of foreshocks that occur before a larger earthquake

  • Planned Parenthood Exec Turned Pro-Life Advocate Abby Johnson Challenges Alyssa Milano On Abortion | Daily Wire

Planned Parenthood Exec Turned Pro-Life Advocate Abby Johnson Challenges Alyssa Milano On Abortion | Daily Wire

On Friday, Planned Parenthood executive turned pro-life advocate Abby Johnson challenged actress Alyssa Milano over her efforts to expand abortion, most recently in the state of Georgia.

Johnson, who wrote the memoir which the pro-life film “Unplanned” is based on, essentially told Milano and her “tiny bun” to go see the film or shut her mouth.

“I’m hoping that Alyssa Milano will muster up the courage to go see the “Unplanned” movie,” Johnson posted on Twitter, tagging the actress.

The fiery Texan added, “If you are willing to advocate for abortion, but unwilling to actually see what you support, then you and your tiny bun really have no relevancy in this conversation.”

I’m hoping that @Alyssa_Milano will muster up the courage to go see the @UnplannedMovie. If you are willing to advocate for abortion, but unwilling to actually see what you support, then you and your tiny bun really have no relevancy in this conversation.

    — Abby Johnson (@AbbyJohnson)

To the shock of absolutely no one, Milano has yet to respond to Johnson, though the tweet has racked up close to 25,000 likes as of Saturday morning.

The former “Who’s the Boss” actress has made herself the face of a campaign to stop a pro-life bill in Georgia, H.B. 481, the Living Infants Fairness and Equality (LIFE) Act, dubbed the “heartbeat bill.” The legislation, which is awaiting signature from Governor Brian Kemp (R-GA), will make it a crime to murder unborn children with a detectable heartbeat, which typically happens around six weeks gestation.

In a letter penned by Milano and signed by some 50 actors, Hollywood elites are threatening to boycott the state if the heartbeat bill passes.

“We can’t imagine being elected officials who had to say to their constituents, “I enacted a law that was so evil, it chased billions of dollars out of our state’s economy.” It’s not the most effective campaign slogan, but rest assured we’ll make it yours should it come to pass,” the letter threatens. “This is the precipice on which you stand.”

I will be supporting the women of Georgia as we stand in solidarity for all women’s rights and hand deliver the below letter to Brian Kemp at 5pm EST this evening. I will broadcast live here on Twitter. #WeWontGoBack pic.twitter.com/gcZqlrW2kB

    — Alyssa Milano (@Alyssa_Milano)

Johnson actually had a more direct reply to this on Facebook last week.

“You know, these actors who keep saying they are going to boycott certain states because they are trying to ban abortion…I just don’t believe them,” posted the pro-life advocate. “I mean, I wish they would just go ahead and do it. They said they were going to leave the country after Trump was elected and they are still flipping here. Just go away already! Stop getting our hopes up! And while they are at it, stay out of Texas, too.”

As stated on her website, Johnson spent eight years at the abortion mill, quickly rising through the ranks to become the company’s youngest clinic director at the time. She began to notice that “[a]bortion was a product Planned Parenthood was selling, not an unfortunate necessity they were fighting to decrease.” In October 2009, Johnson resigned after assisting with an ultrasound-guided abortion of a 13-week-old baby.

“At that moment, she fully realized what abortion actually was and what she had dedicated her life to,” says the site. “As it washed over Abby, a dramatic transformation had occurred. Desperate and confused, Abby sought help from a local pro-life group. She swore that she would begin to advocate for life in the womb and expose abortion for what it truly is.”

“Unplanned” has exploded at the box office despite large TV networks refusing to run the film’s ads, big tech censorship, and a controversial “R” rating from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA).

Milano claims to believe women, to care about “issues plaguing humanity,” but, as of now, she has yet to listen to the other side of the abortion debate, notably from a woman who’s experienced the horrors of abortion and its industry firsthand.

  • Amazon faces tough questions on Parliament Hill over privacy practices, ad targeting | CBC News

Amazon faces tough questions on Parliament Hill over privacy practices, ad targeting | CBC News

Tech giant Amazon was in the hot seat on Parliament Hill Wednesday over how its ‘smart speakers’ target ads at users and occasionally record household conversations.

Elected officials from several countries joined MPs on the House of Commons privacy and ethics committee today for a third day of questioning major information tech and social media firms about big data, privacy and democracy. But one of the strongest attacks on Amazon came not from the MPs, but from a representative of another tech company.

Mark Ryland, director of security engineering for Amazon Web Services, tried to reassure the committee that its smart speaker devices only activate in response to so-called ‘wake up’ words.

    ‘I was shocked’

Moments later, Alan Davidson — vice-president of global policy, trust and security for Mozilla, which developed the Firefox browser — told MPs he was shocked to discover that the Amazon Echo device in his home had recorded his children.

“I was shocked, honestly, and my family was shocked to see these recordings of our young children from years ago that are in the cloud and stored about us,” Davidson told today’s gathering of the International Grand Committee, a collaboration between politicians from Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Ireland, Singapore and several other countries.

“It’s not to say that something was done wrong or unlawfully. It’s actually wonderful to see this kind of level of transparency. But users have no idea. I think that many users have no idea that this data is out there and they don’t know how it’s going to be used in the future, either.

“As an industry, I think we have to do a better job of giving people better, more granular consent about this.”

Davidson said it’s possible for governments to draft laws that would better regulate big tech companies.

Amazon also faced tough questions about the way it can use searches on its Alexa or Echo smart speakers to target users with ads associated with their searches.

    Targeted advertising

“If you have asked about the weather in Bermuda and then you go on Amazon, you might be pitched with a holiday book about Bermuda?” asked Irish MP James Lawless.

    “It’s theoretically possible,” Ryland replied.

Ryland said information gathered by Alexa or Echo devices is added to the user’s profile along with other information, such as lists of items they’ve bought on Amazon. He said users are aware that their information is being used by the company and they can check the information gathered about themselves on Amazon’s website.

While some of the companies that have appeared before the committee have said they’re willing to accept new laws governing their behaviour — and would like to see the European Union’s tough new privacy law, the GDPR, extended to other countries — Ryland said existing competition laws are sufficient and the GDPR is good in principle but cumbersome.

Ryland said Amazon respects domestic laws in the countries where it operates.

Amazon also faced tough questions from NDP MP Charlie Angus about some of its employment practices, citing reports of anti-union practices and the company using an artificial intelligence system to fire workers for failing to meet productivity standards.

Ryland said Amazon treats its workers well and humans review performance data before an employee is dismissed.

The committee also heard Wednesday from Apple and Microsoft, which outlined steps they have been taking to protect the data of their users.

British MP Damian Collins — who hosted the first meeting of the committee in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal — said the hearings in Ottawa underline the need for governments to regulate big tech companies.

“For me, the lesson of the last two days is that we have to continue to work together to make sure we have these systems in place, and to have regulators with the powers to go into big companies and investigate concerns that they may be in breach of data protection law, or not doing what they can to act against harmful content,” he said.

    ‘A profound shift’

Angus said the committee has moved the yardstick over the past six months but its work is not yet done.

“What about the democratic rights of citizens? What are we going to do with artificial machine intelligence making decisions for our lives without our input?” he asked. “What are we going to do with facial recognition technology and holding massively powerful digital corporations to account?

“That’s a profound shift in the political discussion and it’s happening around the world.”

  • Conservatives call for Netflix boycott after company threatens to pull out of Georgia

Conservatives call for Netflix boycott after company threatens to pull out of Georgia

    netflix logos

Conservatives have their nickers in a mighty twist over Netflix’s recent announcement that it may cease production in Georgia if the state’s anti-choice law goes into effect.

The company, which made the announcement on May 28 in Variety, is following the lead of prominent members of the industry who have vowed to move productions elsewhere in the wake of Georgia passing a controversial “heartbeat bill.”

The law bans abortion after a fetal heartbeat is detected, which usually occurs around six weeks of pregnancy, a time when many women do not realize that they are even pregnant.

The company is the first major Hollywood studio to weigh in on the legislation, though this isn’t its first foray into using its clout to protest laws in Georgia. In 2016, Netflix joined other studios that threatened to boycott the state over an anti-LGBT bill. The bill was later vetoed by then-Governor Nathan Deal.

In a statement to Variety, Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said, “We have many women working on productions in Georgia, whose rights, along with millions of others, will be severely restricted by this law.

“It’s why we will work with the ACLU and others to fight it in court. Given the legislation has not yet been implemented, we’ll continue to film there, while also supporting partners and artists who choose not to. Should it ever come into effect, we’d rethink our entire investment in Georgia.”

Conservatives were not having it. Pearl-clutching and fist-waving ensued across social media MAGA country.

Ugh! I hate killing babies but I do love watching old episodes of The Office that I’ve already seen like 10 times. What a tough decision. https://t.co/rX342u4XkV

    — Terry Schilling (@pizzapolitico) May 28, 2019

I enjoy @netflix but there’s literally nothing on there I can’t live without. I’m totally happy to “rethink” my investment as well. It’s a two way street, friends! https://t.co/LO3lYTKnN4

    — Kira (@RealKiraDavis) May 29, 2019

Lots of stories explaining why Netflix, actors would flee Georgia over conservative laws. Wouldnt balanced journalism note that same industry got there by fleeing Cali’s liberal laws?

    — Brad Todd (@BradOnMessage) May 29, 2019

FWIW, Netflix actually moved so many operations to Georgia because it’s essentially being paid to.

Last year, the state stroked $800 million worth of checks to the film industry, also known as corporate welfare. Hard to think of anything more liberal than entitlement spending. Perhaps a more accurate statement is that Netflix fled conservative Cali for liberal Georgia?

Hey .@netflix nearly half the country is pro-life. Don’t alienate your pro-life customers. We have lots of streaming options theses days. https://t.co/2a4aSzElMM

    — Marc Thiessen (@marcthiessen) May 28, 2019

Someone should maybe tell Marc Thiessen to check his numbers, which we realize is kind of a big ask of a Fox News contributor. Thiessen may believe that “nearly half the country is pro-life,” but Quinnipiac and CBS News polls have both recently placed support for Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court case that legalized abortion, at roughly two-thirds. Last we checked, half < two-thirds.

But whipped into a nice, angry lather by the talking heads that inform their every thought, conservatives rushed to proclaim the streaming service “Dead to Me.”

“Holy cuss if they did a blackout on Georgia…. when are some conservative thinking tech billionaires gonna create FREE-thinking and non-political companies to compete?” one wailed.

Another self-described Georgian was more cheerful about the turn of events. “Good Stay the HELL OUT OF OUR STATE !! Also cancelled Netflix nothing but CRAP on!!” she tweeted. Apparently, this Georgia peach hasn’t heard about the upcoming Netflix film I Am Mother, which we’re assuming is the biography of Second Lady Karen “Mother” Pence.

Liberals were highly entertained by the conservative’s vows to cancel their subscription to the service that fills their days, nights and afternoons with endless episodes of likely MAGA-crowd faves like Queer Eye (also filmed in Georgia), Magic Mike, Berlin, I Love You and, of course, Satan.

Looking forward to watching conservatives joining Netflix and then burning their laptops in protest…

    — Stu Mac (@timetravelStu) May 29, 2019

I bet every conservative media personality says some variation of “Netflix sucks anyway” and/or “They gave Obama a show and so we know they’re evil” and/or “Netflix isn’t even that big.” https://t.co/rMIGK0DQnn

    — Josh (@MrJoshLister) May 28, 2019

Those who aren’t canceling Netflix will probably want to mark their calendars for the release of The Edge of Democracy, “a cautionary tale for these times of [Brazilian] democracy in crisis,” as described on Rotten Tomatoes.

Might want to take some notes on that one.

  • Army’s ‘Google Earth On Steroids’ Can Look Inside Buildings

Army’s ‘Google Earth On Steroids’ Can Look Inside Buildings

New mapping technology that is expected to transform training and simulation exercises for America’s warfighters was unveiled at the IEEE Transportation Electrification Conference and Expo (ITEC) 2019 conference on May 15 in Stockholm, Sweden, reported National Defense Magazine.

Jason Knowles, director of geospatial science and technology at the University of Southern California’s Institute for Creative Technologies, an Army affiliated research center, spoke at ITEC about the new terrain capture and reconstruction software that recreates complex environments including cities for simulation exercises and war planning. The institute is part of a cross-functional team working on the mapping software (called One World Terrain (OWT) project).

At a briefing during ITEC, Knowles showed the audience a picture of an enemy base that was captured and digitally re-created in about an hour using commercial software and a small drone. “We were able to throw that UAS up, capture that in an hour, put it on the laptop, process it, and push it out,” he said.

“The ability to have an individual or a squad go out, collect their own organic 3D model for ingesting into their modeling and simulation is huge for us,” he said.

“The interior of buildings are now being fused and snapped inside of that 3D model,” Knowles said. The software can “strip the outside of a building level by level and see what’s inside the building. That’s obviously very useful for operators.”

He said the software is linked with GPS data so war planners can organize future real operations.

The rapid 3D terrain capture and reconstruction system is supported by aerial imagery from satellites and aircraft. For higher resolution, reconnaissance teams can deploy small, handheld drones to collect much higher resolution imagery, he added.

The software uses machine learning and artificial intelligence for the data merging component to “make the model smart, so it’s not just [identifying objects in] pictures,” he said. For example, it can tell troops if a perimeter wall of an enemy base needs to breached with a vehicle or munition.

The new mapping software is one of the Army’s top modernization priorities, besides long-range precision missiles, next-generation combat vehicle, future vertical lift, air-and-missile defense, directed energy weapons, next-generation combat rifle, and soldier lethality.

Alligator and Sharks encounters are on the rise, Maybe they really like the taste of humans!

Tony Aarts’ shot left his ball resting near the hole at Magnolia Landing Golf & Country Club in North Fort Myers. He grabbed his putter and walked past a water hazard toward the green. Then he heard a splash. Aarts assumed a golfer behind him hit without waiting for him to move Then he saw the alligator. “He was coming right at me. Just, boom,” Aarts recalled of the February day in 2017. The gator grabbed Aarts’ right foot and began pulling him into the water. Aarts dug his left foot into the mud, a futile attempt to slow the gator down. He clubbed the gator in the head with his putter. No use. The gator relented only after Aarts began bashing its eye. The golfer suffered only minor injuries to his foot. He was one of 12 people bitten by an alligator in Florida in 2017, and one of 410 people bitten since the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission began keeping track in 1948. Twenty-five of those attacks were fatal. And although alligator attacks are rare, this is the time of year when the reptiles are most active. With the weather warming and their hormones hopping during mating season, which usually starts in April, alligators have been popping up all over Florida in recent weeks.
