5 Ideas for Using Rustic Lighting in the Backyard

We hope you like the products we recommend. Just so you are aware, Freshome may collect a share of sales from the links on this page.

Rustic chic accents were practically made for the backyard, as their bucolic feel fits well with a natural setting. And if you want to add some instant rustic ambiance and class to your backyard, the fastest way to do it is to add outdoor rustic lighting using string lights. Immediately, this may strike you as fairly unclassy. You might picture plastic tiki string lights or out-of-season Christmas lights.
But backyard lights can bring subtle mood lighting and still keep things looking thoroughly rustic chic. You simply need to know the right styles of lights to use, which we’ll cover below.

    Rustic Lighting Bulb Style

Rustic exposed bulbs can add plenty of soft light to a backyard. Image: funkyteddy/Shutterstock

    Rustic Exposed Bulbs

An instant way to get a rustic chic look is to opt for a classic exposed filament bulb style, like the rustic lighting in the photo above. Old-style bulbs give off something of an antique look. But they still add plenty of ambient lighting, thanks to the softer glow of their light source versus certain LED types.

You can see in the photo above how great classic bulbs look when used as string lighting outdoors. You could easily hang them from trees to juxtapose the natural plant life with the industrial-style light source. They could also look great hanging over eating areas or patios to light up where people socialize.

    Combining Light Types

Another idea for rustic lighting is to go for an exposed bulb style combined with more traditional string lighting. You can see in the photo above how the idea was used to maximum effect by stringing bulbs to the tree. Then, that light source is accented with small string lights around the branches themselves. The whole style leads to an enchanted forest feel.

This idea works best with small string lights in either white or a cool color like green. Bolder colors like multicolor styles, red or orange might look too seasonal, like they belong on a Christmas tree. But white and cool-color lights will give a timeless, clean feel to your outdoor rustic accent lighting.

    Rustic Lighting Cage Style

String light styles fit well with classic items like these birdcages. Image: Amlan Mathur/Shutterstock

    Use Rustic Accents

You could also combine your outdoor lighting with other rustic-inspired accent items. An example is the old-style wire birdcages in the photo above. The white string lights around the tree light up the area beautifully. And the lighting on the tree draws attention to the rustic accent of the birdcages hanging nearby.

Another classic idea that fits into rustic chic styles is an old-style lantern. These can either hang next to string lights or be their own light source. Lanterns with rustic lighting in them, like flameless candles, are also popular for outdoor rustic chic styles. These fit well hanging or on table settings as accents.

    Rustic Lighting Globe Lights

Hang rustic light sources from plant life for added natural appeal. Image: Oleksandr Kavun/Shutterstock

Combine Natural Elements and Rustic Lighting

Another idea is to combine rustic lighting sources with accents from nature. An example is the hanging globe lights with tea candles in them in the photo above. Candles are great for adding an instant classic appeal and the globe design shows them off well. And hanging those globe lights from a natural garland design is a classy way to bring in the rustic appeal of natural textures.

You could do this in a few different ways. You could go with a natural arch and hang the globe lights from the top, like in the photo. Lights like these could sit within natural wreaths on a table setting. Or you could hang lights like these along the length of a garland.

Something like this would work especially well for an outdoor wedding. And if you have fire hazard concerns, you can always use LED tea lights.

    Rustic Lighting Distressed Wood

Distressed wood and exposed bulbs give the perfect rustic vibe. Image: Alex Levine Photography/Shutterstock

Hang Rustic Lighting Close to Natural Wood

The photo above shows how great exposed bulbs look when hung along a rustic wood item, like a fence. The old-style bulbs and lightly aged wood combine to look delightfully bucolic and classic. If you can, it can also help to include an accent of plant life nearby to further add to the rustic, natural look.

You can use this idea in a few different ways, as well. For instance, you might hang exposed bulbs like these outside a barn-style shed. Or you might hang string lights over a distressed, reclaimed wood patio table. This idea allows for creativity and personal inspiration.

  • Lawmakers Just Voted To Give FULL Health Benefits To Illegal Immigrants!

Lawmakers Just Voted To Give FULL Health Benefits To Illegal Immigrants!

Get ready to get outraged, if you’re not already by reading the headline.

California lawmakers recently agreed to let illegal immigrants be accepted into their state’s Medicaid program, which offers full health benefits to the poor and disabled.

    Just…what?

How can liberals be so crazy and stupid?

We can imagine the conversation before the decision went something like this:

Should we take steps towards ending the immigration crisis affecting our taxpaying law-abiding citizens?

Nah, how about instead we give FULL HEALTH BENEFITS to illegal immigrants?!

    That’ll really show Trump.

Who cares that it will be our own legal civilians paying for it?

Nevermind that the vast majority of hard-working U.S. citizens don’t even have full healthcare and have to pay a lot out of pocket for just partial coverage!

Check out this angering display of government idiocy that hit Twitter:

Democrat-Controlled California To Give Taxpayer-Funded Health Care To Illegal Aliens In Gavin Newsom’s Budget Dealhttps://t.co/61FCDDhFlZ

    — Ryan Saavedra (@RealSaavedra) June 10, 2019

    UNBELIEVABLE:

In a stance to distance itself from President Trump’s administration, California is set to become the first state in the country to pay for tens of thousands of illegal immigrants to have full health benefits.

Far-Left California Governor Gavin Newsom to Extend Health Benefits to Illegal Aliens https://t.co/Q9xjQA0vr4 pic.twitter.com/AUgOuC6zuB

    — Chuck Woolery (@chuckwoolery) June 10, 2019

Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom estimates that it’s going to cost the state $98 million in taxpayer’s money to pay for illegal immigrants’ health care.

    But – don’t fret!

It’s only going to be available to young illegals from age 19-25.

It would just be too costly to let every illegal immigrant get free health care.

    THAT would just be insane!

ABC News has more details Newsom’s budget allocation, which includes paying for illegals to have free health coverage:

California will become the first state to pay for some adults living in the country illegally to have full health benefits as the solidly liberal bastion continues to resist the policies of Republican President Donald Trump’s administration.

Democrats in the state Legislature reached an agreement Sunday afternoon as part of a broader plan to spend $213 billion of state and federal tax money over the next year. The legislature is expected to approve the deal this week. The agreement means low-income adults between the ages of 19 and 25 living in California illegally would be eligible for California’s Medicaid program, the joint state and federal health insurance program for the poor and disabled.

Only those in that age group whose incomes are low enough to qualify for the program would get the health benefits. State officials estimate that group will be about 90,000 people at a cost of $98 million per year. The state Senate had wanted to expand the proposal to include adults 65 and older, but the Newsom administration argued it would cost too much.

“California believes that health is a fundamental right,” said state Sen. Holly Mitchell, a Los Angeles Democrat who led the budget negotiations.

The move is part of a larger effort to make sure everyone in California has health insurance. The proposal also makes California the first state in the country to help middle-income families pay their monthly health insurance premiums. It means a family of four earning as much as six times the federal poverty level — or more than $150,000 a year — would be eligible to get about $100 a month from the government to help pay their monthly health insurance premiums.

But to pay for part of it, the state will begin taxing people who don’t have health insurance. It’s a revival of the individual mandate penalty that had been law nationwide under former President Barack Obama’s health care law until Republicans in Congress eliminated it as part of the 2017 overhaul to the tax code.

Republicans on the legislative committee negotiating the budget voted against the proposal, arguing it was not fair to give health benefits to people who are in the country illegally while taxing people who are here legally for not purchasing health insurance.

Fox News also had the following to say:

Under an agreement between Gov. Gavin Newsom and Democrats in the state legislature, low-income adults between the ages of 19 and 25 living in California illegally would be eligible for California’s Medicaid program, known as Medi-Cal. The deal emerged as part of a broader $213 billion budget.

The plan would take effect in January 2020, the Sacramento Bee reported.

State officials have estimated the benefits would be available to about 90,000 low-income illegal immigrants at a cost of $98 million per year.

“While it’s not all we sought, it will provide a real tangible difference for people, especially for those around and below poverty and for middle income families who don’t get any help under the federal law,” Anthony Wright, executive director of advocacy group Health Access, said. Indeed, a family of four earning as much as six times the federal poverty level — or more than $150,000 a year — would be eligible to get about $100 a month from the government to help pay their monthly health insurance premiums.

Mr. Newsom, if you’re going to spend the budget in such a way, why don’t you at least instead pay for health care for citizens who are legally in California and spend tons of dollars every year on health insurance instead of childishly trying to “prove a point” by giving handouts to CRIMINALS?

Oh, yeah, because Trump just might approve of that.

Dems can’t risk being associated with that “bad Russia colluding man!”

Doctors Found Hundreds of Bubble Tea Balls Trapped in Teenager’s Stomach

Constipation sucks. But the next time you’re trapped on the toilet, praying for some action, keep in mind that it could be much, much worse.

One teenager in China was actually hospitalized for constipation after having severe stomach pains and not being able to poop for five days. Zhu Li, 14, had her stomach scanned and what doctors found might make you rethink your bubble tea habit. Li’s doctor, Zhang Louwei, discovered hundreds of undigested tapioca balls from bubble tea that were blocking up her GI tract, The Sun reports.

In case you’re not familiar with it, bubble tea is a cold drink usually made with iced tea, sweetened milk, and sweet black balls, or “pearls,” that are made from tapioca. (It’s become so popular, companies have turned it into decor. Proof: this boba tea nightlight.)

Li claimed that she only had one cup of bubble tea before the sh*t (didn’t) hit the fan, but her doctor is calling her bluff. “So many undigested tapioca balls can’t all be from just one cup,” Zhang said. “She must’ve had quite a few over a short period.”

He Yuling, chief of the emergency department where Li sought care, said that tapioca is notoriously hard to digest and “some companies add thickeners such as gelatin to make the balls more ‘al dente.’” Yuling also said that “drinking too much bubble tea can easily lead to gastrointestinal dysfunction.”

Luckily, Li ended up okay. She was given a prescription for laxatives to help flush out the tapioca balls and sent on her way.

Cramer: Hershey’s turnaround came at the right time

Cramer: Hershey’s turnaround came at the right time, and sent the stock up 28%

CNBC’s Jim Cramer praised Hershey leadership for engineering a turnaround story for the iconic sweets company — a turnaround he says came at exactly the right time.

The stock has had a “magnificent” 28.96% run in 2019, but could be nearing a peak, Cramer said. Still, the household name is worth keeping on the shopping list.

“I salute CEO Michele Buck for masterminding this tremendous turnaround,” the “Mad Money” host said. “But with Hershey at $138 and investors no longer craving safety, I think you should wait for a pullback before you pull the trigger.”

After trading flat at around $100 per share for years, Hershey staged a comeback by diversifying its core business, cutting costs, focusing on the best foreign markets and promoting Buck from chief operating officer, Cramer said. The stock gained more than $20 per share in 2019, partly due to Wall Street concerns of an economic slowdown, which sends investors buying up defensive stocks.

“The company’s relatively new management team has been executing on a very smart turnaround plan for the past couple of years, and their moves are finally paying off,” Cramer said. “When everyone was worrying about a possible recession, Hershey was the perfect safe-haven. A nice, consistent, domestically-focused candy company with a solid yield currently at 2.1%.”

The centenarian candy corporation counts Reese’s, Kit Kat, Almond Joy and Twizzlers brands under its umbrella. The company added several snack brands to its portfolio, as well, as cocoa costs climbed and consumer tastes changed. Hershey owns brands including Pirate Booty-maker Pirate Brands and SkinnyPop popcorn producer Amplify Snack Brands.

Buck, Cramer highlighted, said in February “these brands add additional depth and incrementality to our already amazing portfolio of brands.” A string of acquisitions allowed Hershey to find modest single-digit revenue growth, the host added.

In its April quarterly report, Hershey delivered shareholders a top- and bottom-line beat, with 2% organic sales growth and nearly 13% earnings growth. SkinnyPop alone grew at an 11% clip, Cramer noted.

Cramer said Hershey, currently valued at more than $37 billion, can keep innovating as it does with new variations of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups to stay on top.

Hershey saw growth in its latest quarter “because management executed better than they’d predicted and the company had a very strong Easter, which matters because they own the distribution rights for Cadbury,” he said.

  • Jet Airways share price slumps over 23% on report NSE to remove stock from F&O trading from June 28

Jet Airways share price slumps over 23% on report NSE to remove stock from F&O trading from June 28

Jet Airways share price slumped in early trade today after NSE said shares would be pulled out of Futures and Options trading from June 28. Jet Airways share price slumped over 23%  to 84.80 level compared to the previous close of 110.40 on BSE. Jet Airways share opened at a loss of 9.96% at 99.40 and fell to a fresh 52-week low of 84.80 on BSE.

Its market capitalisation fell to Rs 986.03 crore with 15.61 lakh shares changing hands on BSE. The stock has been losing for the last nine days and fallen 40.30% in the period.

Jet Airways share price has lost 77.48% during the last one year and fallen 68.22% since the beginning of this year.

The stock is trading below its 50-day and 200-day moving averages of 142.81 and 224.15 level.

The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) said shares of Jet Airways would be pulled out of F&O trading, citing the embattled carrier’s failure to respond to queries about rumours in the market Jet’s securities will now be moved to the trade for trade segment with effect from June 28 as a “preventive surveillance measure”, from the current rolling segment, which allows daily trading, the stock exchange said in a circular

“There are concerns with regard to continuity of flow of information about the company which is very vital for the appropriate price discovery in the scrip,” NSE said, adding that trading in the stock may not reflect the actual status of the company

NSE also cited the company’s failure to submit its financial results for the year ended March 31 as well as observations made by the airline’s auditor as reasons for the move. On Tuesday, the stock closed 10.58% or 13.25 points lower at Rs 111.95 amid reports that London-based Hinduja Group has decided to stop talks to buy a stake in the ailing airline, while Etihad Airways of Abu Dhabi has also stalled its plan to infuse more funds into the Mumbai-based airline.

Negative sentiment has hit the stock this week on news that its two operational creditors-Shaman Wheels and Gaggar Enterprises-took it to the insolvency court National Company law Tribunal (NCLT) seeking bankruptcy proceedings against the airline.

The development came at a time when banks are looking to resolve the once premier airline’s debt issues outside the insolvency process.

Jet Airways owes more than Rs 8,000 crore to a consortium of banks led by the State Bank of India, which now run the airline, while it has a much larger debt pile by way of accumulated losses to the tune of Rs 13,000 crore and vendor dues of over Rs 10,000 crore and salary dues of over  Rs 3,000 crore.

The banks have appointed SBI Capital Markets as the investment banker to find an investor to scout an investor for the company.

Bankers, after taking over the airline late March had invited bids on April 8 to sell up to 75 percent stake in the crippled carrier that formally stopped operations on April 17. Though it had received initial bids from parties- Etihad Airways, two private equity players TPG Capital and Indigo Partners, and the sovereign wealth fund NIIF, none of them chose to submit the final bids.

Why is Andreessen Horowitz (and everyone else) investing in Latin America now? – TechCrunch

Investments by U.S. venture capital firms into Latin America are skyrocketing and one of the firms leading the charge into deals is none other than Silicon Valley’s Andreessen Horowitz.

The firm that shook up Silicon Valley with potentially over-generous term sheets and valuations and an overarching thesis that “software is eating the world” has been reluctant to test its core belief… well… pretty much anywhere outside of the United States.

That was true until a few years ago when Andreessen began making investments in Latin America. It’s the only geography outside of the U.S. where the firm has committed significant capital and the pace of its investments is increasing.

Andreessen isn’t the only firm that’s making big bets in companies south of the American border. SoftBank has its $2 billion dollar investment fund, which launched earlier this year, to invest in Latin American deals as well. (Although the most recent SoftBank Innovation Fund investment in GymPass is likely an indicator that the fund, much like SoftBank’s “Vision” fund, has a pretty generous interpretation of what is and is not a Latin American deal.)

Agung is a GSM stratovolcano, easily capable of producing a level 5 eruption on the Volcanic Explosivity Index (VEI) — just as it did back in 1963 (during solar minimum of cycle 19) and 1843 (during the Dalton Minimum), according to .

And now, after five and a half decades of quiescence, the mountain is once again rocking — with this latest eruptive phase, which began in late 2017, already ranking as VEI 3.

Agung is one to watch as we continue our descent into this next Grand Solar Minimum.

The recent global uptick in earthquakes and volcanic eruptions is likely attributed to the drop-off in solar activity, coronal holes, a waning magnetosphere, and the increase in Cosmic Rays penetrating silica-rich magma.

Chemistry teacher who founded pharma firm now worth $10.8 billion, East Asia News & Top Stories – The Straits Times

HONG KONG (BLOOMBERG) – Zhong Huijuan quit her job teaching chemistry to teenagers and got into the drug business.

The career switch has paid off handsomely.

Her Hansoh Pharmaceutical Group, China’s largest maker of psychotropic drugs, is poised to go public on Friday (June 14) in Hong Kong with a market value of US$10.4 billion (S$14.2 billion). Ms Zhong holds a 68 per cent stake, giving her a US$7.9 billion (S$10.8 billion) fortune, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Ms Zhong, 58, is not even the richest person in the family. Her husband Sun Piaoyang, 60, is worth US$9.3 billion, due to the success of his Jiangsu Hengrui Medicine Co, a maker of anti-tumour drugs whose stock has returned about 16,300 per cent since it went public in Shanghai almost two decades ago.

They are poised to be among the world’s richest pharma families, with a combined fortune that rivals the Sacklers, who made a fortune selling opioids, and the Bertarellis of Switzerland.

Healthcare spending in China has surged to 5.9 trillion yuan (S$1.1 trillion) last year from 3.5 trillion yuan in 2014, and is projected to top 9.4 trillion yuan in 2023, Hansoh said in a prospectus for the offering.

Mr Cen Junda, a long-time investor of the Lianyungang, Jiangsu-based company, is also a billionaire with a stake valued at about US$1.7 billion.

Ms Iris Luo, a spokesman for Hansoh, declined to comment on their fortunes.

The initial public offering will make Ms Zhong China’s third-richest woman, after two real estate moguls: Country Garden Holdings co-chairman Yang Huiyan, and Longfor Group Holdings chairman Wu Yajun, who are worth US$21.4 billion and US$10 billion, respectively.

Ms Zhong graduated with an undergraduate degree in chemistry from Jiangsu Normal University in July 1982 and taught chemistry at Yan’an middle school in Lianyungang in the early 1990s, according to the website of All-China Women’s Foundation. She founded Hansoh in 1995.

The company, which researches and produces drugs for six major therapeutic areas, reported 1.9 billion yuan in profit in 2018, an 18 per cent increase from a year earlier, the prospectus shows. The drugmaker gets almost half of its revenue from cancer treatments.

“We believe its R&D will focus on making generics as soon as possible to take the first-mover advantage, a strategy many leading pharma companies applied in the past,” said Hong Kong-based analyst Zhang Jialin of ICBC International Research.

Hansoh’s cornerstone investors include Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund GIC and Hillhouse Capital, Asia’s biggest private equity buyer, helping to draw more market interest in Friday’s IPO.

The company said on Thursday that the retail portion of the offering was 12 times covered. Hengrui’s earlier success also may help bolster investor confidence in Hansoh.

“The synergies between Hengrui and Hansoh, particularly in R&D and distribution, will bring the latter advantages over industry competitors,” said Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Mia He.
