People Are Skipping 4th Of July Fireworks To Comfort Scared Shelter Dogs

Just like New Year’s, July 4 isn’t exactly a holiday for most pups. In fact, fireworks and other loud noises can even make it a nightmare. And, while our family furballs have the commodity of hiding under the bed, shelter dogs aren’t so lucky. However, one shelter came up with a brilliant idea to help these homeless pups relax through the blasting holiday.

“When they have these noise phobias, it’s horrible,” noted veterinarian Marty Becker said. “A lot of times these dogs will self-mutilate. I’ve had dogs come in that have run through a plate-glass window. They think they’re going to die, and when you think you’re going to die, you do crazy things.”

  • Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak says you should get off Facebook because ‘there’s almost no way to stop’ companies from spying on your habits

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak says you should get off Facebook because ‘there’s almost no way to stop’ companies from spying on your habits

Steve Wozniak is the latest high-profile naysayer to speak out against Facebook.

The Apple co-founder, who deleted his own Facebook profile last year, told TMZ recently that he recommends most people ‘figure out a way to get off’ the site due to ongoing privacy concerns.

Wozniak warned that people often assume they have much more privacy online than they really do, and said he’s now ‘worried about everything’ when it comes to potential eavesdropping and data sharing.

And according to Wozniak, the answer is yes.

‘I’m worried about everything,’ Wozniak said. ‘I don’t think you can stop it, though.

‘Who knows if my cell phone is listening right now? Alexa has already been in the news a lot.’

The prevalence of connected devices today means your conversations might not be as private as you think they are, Wozniak said.

‘There’s almost no way to stop it,’ he added. ‘People think they have a level of privacy that they don’t.

‘Why don’t they give me a choice? Let me pay a certain amount and you’ll keep my data more secure and private than everyone else handing it to advertisers.’

While you may not be able to stop it entirely, there are ways the average person can clamp down on their personal data – including getting rid of Facebook.

When asked if Facebook and Instagram users should delete their accounts, Wozniak said most would be smart to do so.

‘There are many different kinds of people, and for some the benefits of Facebook are worth the loss of privacy,’ Wozniak said.

‘But, to many like myself, my recommendation is, to most people, you should figure out a way to get off Facebook.’

Despite his own role in bringing technology to consumers’ hands, Wozniak has increasingly spoken out about the risks and limitations of today’s systems.

In the past, he’s also flip-flopped on the topic of autonomous cars. As of last fall, Wozniak said he’s ‘lost faith’ in the abilities of self-driving technology.

  • Here Are The Details On California’s Sex Education

Here Are The Details On California’s Sex Education

    • The California Board of Education, Planned Parenthood, and the ACLU created and implemented a progressive sex education and gender theory agenda.
    • Students are shown sexually explicit content from kindergarten through 12th grade.
    • Topics include fisting, blood play, masturbation, oral sex, and more.

The California Board of Education implemented progressive sex and gender education curriculum in public schools across the state, regardless, in some cases, of parental knowledge or consent.

Both of these pieces of education legislation mandate that school districts require sex ed and encourage students to question their parents on sexual topics – topics explored in the kindergarten through 12th grade sex education curricula implemented in California schools.

Lawmakers Create The California Healthy Youth Act, A Bill Mandating K-12 Sex Ed

AB-329, otherwise known as the California Healthy Youth Act, was created in 2016 and has several aimed purposes.

The bill aims to teach K-12 students how to ward off HIV and other STDs, to teach “healthy attitudes” towards sexual orientation, gender, and relationships, and to “promote understanding of sexuality as a normal part of human development.”

The bill also promises to “provide educators with clear tools and guidance to accomplish that end.”

AB-329 allows for parents to opt their children out of sexual education. However, the bill prohibits parents from opting their children out of materials that discuss gender, gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation.

The law also prohibits abstinence-only education and prohibits any discussion of religious doctrine, according to an ACLU handout.

The handout adds that beginning in seventh grade, children must be taught “all FDA-approved methods preventing pregnancy and transmission of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (including condoms, contraceptives, and antiretroviral treatment) and abstinence.”

Educators Must “Affirmatively Recognize Different Sexual Orientations And Be Inclusive”

‘The Real College Scandal’ — Tucker Exposes The ‘Quid Pro Quo’ Between Ivy League Schools And Prominent Democrats

Tucker Carlson described the fact that politicians — particularly Democrats — manage to get their children into elite Ivy League schools at an astonishingly disproportionate rate compared to the general public as “the real college scandal.”

The Fox News host included several examples during a segment on Monday night’s edition of “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” including the Cuomo, Gore, Clinton, and Obama families, and juxtaposed the legality of that with Hollywood figures and others currently in legal trouble for trying to bribe their kids’ way into some of the same schools.

    WATCH:

Carlson began the segment by focusing on CNN anchor Chris Cuomo, who went to Yale despite the fact that “there are nights when Cuomo emits entire paragraphs that mean nothing at all.”

“Is Chris Cuomo a secret genius?” Carlson asked rhetorically. “Does he have some amazing talent that’s invisible on television? Maybe he speaks flawless Urdu? Or has a deep grounding in particle physics? Perhaps he can calculate pi to the final digit? Actually, no. Chris Cuomo can’t do any of that.”

  • ‘STRANGER THINGS’ SEASON 3 VIEWED BY MORE THAN 40 MILLION USERS ON NETFLIX

‘STRANGER THINGS’ SEASON 3 VIEWED BY MORE THAN 40 MILLION USERS ON NETFLIX

That’s a record for Netflix to ever get to an audience of that size. THR also reported just more than 18 million people have already cruised through every episode of season three.

As I noted Monday, I just got into this show, and binged the first season over the past few days. It’s no surprise to me the latest season is putting up such gigantic numbers.

It’s an absolutely awesome show, and the nostalgic factor is through the roof. It appeals to older generations who grew up in the 1970s and 80s, it appeals to my generation, which still grew up on “The Goonies,” and it appeals to younger people as well.

It’s a hit pretty much across all demographics.

  • Video Captures Delta Air Lines MD-88 Engine Failing Mid-Flight Before Emergency Landing

Video Captures Delta Air Lines MD-88 Engine Failing Mid-Flight Before Emergency Landing

There are many things that one never wants to see out a plane window, and this is definitely one of them. In a video posted to Twitter by user Logan Webb, one of Delta Flight 1425’s engines can be seen with what appears to be its spinner completely detached and rattling around in the inlet, all while an extremely ominous orange glow emanates from deeper within from the still-spinning shaft.

Flight 1425, which per ABC News was “32-year-old [McDonnell Douglas] MD-88 with the engines mounted on the fuselage near the tail,” had departed from Hartsfield-Jackson International at around 12:48 p.m. on Monday afternoon en route to Baltimore-Washington International before the incident struck about an hour into flight. Fortunately, the flight crew was able to make an emergency landing at Raleigh-Durham International at around 2:27 p.m. with all 148 passengers on board unharmed, if shaken.

Delta told ABC News in a statement that the flight crew received “an indication of a possible issue with one of the aircraft’s engines.” That could fairly be qualified as an understatement, per ABC News:

  • Family Builds Backyard Pool Out Of Pallets And It’s Awesome

Family Builds Backyard Pool Out Of Pallets And It’s Awesome

After a long cold winter, that first sign of spring is one of the best sights I see all year! I’m a huge fan of summer and every single activity that comes along with it. I’m from a state that is known for having the greatest snow on Earth, but I’ll still take a blistering hot summer over a perfect, snowy winter any day. As soon as the temps reach a point that I can wear a tank top, shorts and flip-flops, you will find me outside enjoying the sun. One of my favorite summertime activities is definitely swimming. There’s nothing quite like taking a dip on a triple digit degree day in the middle of summer with a cold drink. Call me crazy but I love the heat. Growing up, I pretty much begged my parents every single year for a swimming pool. I was always disappointed that I never had a swimming pool in my yard until I grew up and started paying bills on my own. As an adult with my own house, I often think to myself, “who in their right mind would spend that amount of money on a pool?” Well it looks like I can now have a backyard swimming pool and save a small fortune by building it myself. I consider myself really handy but I don’t think I would be confident in tackling a DIY swimming pool. That was until I saw this DIY pallet swimming pool that you could easily set up in an afternoon. Take a look at how a family built this awesome DIY swimming pool and get started before summer is over!

This family collected 9 full size pallets and stood them on end on a very level piece of ground in their backyard. Beneath the pallets, they placed a very durable, heavy-duty tarp.

With all 9 pallets touching, they had to fasten them together for structural support. They nailed boards along the top that tie the pallets together. They cut and nailed boards down the sides of the pallets, where they meet, holding them together. After all the boards were in place, they ran some heavy-duty load straps around the entire assembly for added support and strength.

Because the boards can be sharp and a little rough, they took simple sheets, blankets and towels and covered every single inch of the interior. They used a staple gun to fasten the sheets and blankets to the pallets. They made sure to double up the towels on the sharp corners to prevent any damage to the pool liner.

With the protective layer of sheets in place, it was time to place the pool liner. They used a very large medium duty tarp. It was simply held up with duct tape in order to keep it in place before attaching it permanently.

They cut boards that would serve as a shelf around the top edge of the DIY pallet swimming pool. They sanded these to prevent any slivers and screwed them into the tops of the pallet. Between this top shelf and the pallets, the pool liner is locked securely in place.

They found some bamboo roll down blinds that were cut to the height of the pool. These give the exterior of the DIY pallet swimming pool a nice finish that looks like it came from the factory.

After filling it with water and giving it a few days in the sun to warm up, this DIY pallet swimming pool is ready to cool you off on a hot summer day.

  • Poland moves to exempt young workers from income tax

Poland moves to exempt young workers from income tax

Polish lawmakers have approved a measure that would exonerate most workers under the age of 26 from income taxes as the country seeks to stem the flow of its young people to other EU nations in search of better paying jobs.

The lower house of parliament approved the measure introduced by the ruling conservatives in a vote late Thursday by an overwhelming majority.

The bill would exonerate workers under the age of 26 from Poland’s 18 percent personal income tax for those whose gross earnings don’t surpass 85,500 zlotys (20,000 euros, $22,500) per year.

That level is higher than Poland’s average income, estimated to be around 60,000 zlotys per year before tax.

The approval of the measure by the upper house of parliament and its signature by the president is widely expected.

Some two million people could benefit from the measure, according to supporters of the legislation, which should enter into force from August 1.

Poland has long been haemorrhaging skilled workers to other EU states where they can find better paying jobs, posing both a long-term demographic risk and short-term problem finding enough labourers to continue the country’s streak of economic growth since the fall of communism in 1989.

The measure was one of the campaign promises made by the ruling Law and Justice party ahead of the European parliamentary elections in May, which it won, and legislative elections scheduled for later this year.
