A New Way to Church: Justin Bieber’s Pastor Launches App to Take Church Global

He’s one of the men who helped introduce Justin Bieber to Jesus Christ. Now Pastor Judah Smith is working on the rest of the world, bringing church to your smartphone and tablet in a new way.Smith and his wife Chelsea, who are lead pastors of Churchome with locations in Seattle and Los Angeles, have launched an app that brings church to the palm of your hand, including sermons, a virtual lobby, a “Daily Spark” inspiration, prayer and even community groups. The Chuchome Global App can be downloaded from the church’s website.

Smith said he decided to launch the app after he noticed a growing number of his members said they no longer go to a physical church building.  So the pastor duo decided to bring the church to them right on their phone whenever they want. “We’re trying to take church to the palm of your hand,” Smith said. “Wherever you go, Churchome is with you.”Churchome, previously called City Church, was founded by Smith’s father in 1992. Smith himself has been preaching for 25 years. He says being able to go to church on your phone, doesn’t signal the end of physical church buildings. “Technology has changed the world and we believe that technology is not a bad thing. It’s like money. It’s what you do with it. It could be good or evil, and we believe that we have an opportunity,” he said.

Besides Bieber, the church’s celebrity members include pro-golfer Bubba Watson and Seahawks Quarterback Russell Wilson. “Russ and I get to spend a lot of time together during the season as I get to do the chaplaincy for the Seattle Seahawks,” Smith told Fox News. Smith noted he’s really proud of Bieber, Watson, and Wilson whom he calls “his brothers.”  “To see them share their faith, which is the most important part of their life for those three men, the platform that God has given them has been something that has been so encouraging to me,” he said.  Bieber and Smith have been friends for several years, after Bieber’s mother Pattie Mallette introduced them. Smith says he has learned more from the singer than Bieber has learned from him.  “Watching Justin’s journey, as he’s grown up in view of the entire world and yet has owned his journey and his challenges and difficulties,” Smith said. “I think is an incredible example.”  “Justin Bieber has taught me far more than I could ever teach him about what it means to grow and walk in humility and be someone who really wants to follow Jesus,” he added.

Russia has secretly installed nuke missiles in Venezuela, US politician claims in chilling echo of Cuban Missile Crisis

RUSSIA has secretly installed nuclear missiles in Venezuela a US politician has sensationally claimed in a chilling echo of the Cuban Missile Crisis.  Republican congressman Mario Diaz-Balart said he believes Vladimir Putin’s hidden nukes are now a direct threat to the “national security” of the United States.  He made his astonishing allegations hours after Venezuela was pushed to the brink of civil war when opposition leader Juan Guaido called for rival Nicolas Maduro to be ousted from office.  Diaz-Balart told Fox News if Maduro stays in power it could be “an open door for the Russians and for the Chinese and for others to increase their activity against our national security interest.”  Journalist Tucker Carlson then asked: “Are you suggesting they are going to invade?”  “The closest we ever came to nuclear war was because the Russians put missiles, right, nuclear missiles in Cuba,” replied Diaz-Balart.  “Are you saying the Russians will put nuclear missiles in Venezuela?” Carlson asked.  “What I am suggesting is that they are already there,” answered Diaz-Balart, without offering any evidence to back up his claim.

    Best Survival Food – is Weevil-Less Food!…

What good is stored up food, if bugs get into it or it goes bad?  Best survival food?  Well… My pet peeve is finding weevils and bugs in my food storage, so to ME the best form of survival food is whatever will last for years with no fear of bugs, mice or weevils!  It is JUST as important HOW your stockpile of food is stored than what KIND of food you store up.  Many of the boughten survival food kits come in vacuum packed packages so they will store for a long time, or if you can get it in buckets, that is even better as you won’t need to worry about critters getting into it or of losing it to moisture, etc.  How long do we need to prepare ahead for – and how many mouths are we preparing for?
The length of time is simply based on what kind of a plan we have…and if we are thinking of bunkering down at home, or have a getaway plan in mind.  I would suggest striving towards a food backup of six months if we plan to stay at home, and about half of that if you are planning to get out of dodge.  But even there, every one’s preparedness needs are different, so figuring this piece out is very important.  That is often the first step in determining what foods are best and what type of food storage system to use.  Here is a food list to help you get started if you want some ideas of what KIND of foods to stockpile, ESPECIALLY if you are expanding your shelves at home.

    Budget and Timeline:

What is your plan as far as … do you plan to buy it all at once or are you wanting to buy a little at a time.  If you are on a tight budget, check out our Stockpiling Food on a Shoestring Budget page here….  If you are wanting to just bite the bullet and store enough food to last for a year or more, there are several places where you can get great QUALITY food reserves.  IF you are thinking about storing food on your own without vacuum sealing it or anything like that, there are a few things to bear in mind with long term food storage.
It is best to store most items in a cool dry place.

Harry Potter fans can now stay in a replica of Hagrid’s cottage complete with copper bath and stained glass windows

LOOK alive Potterheads because you can now officially stay in a holiday home inspired by Hagrid’s cottage – and it’s about as close to the films are we’re ever going to get.

The replica of Hagrid’s Hogwarts Groundskeeper Cottage has just opened in a fantastical holiday park near Saltburn, on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, to celebrate International Harry Potter Day on 2 May.

Complete with an enormous stone fireplace and Hogwarts-style stained windows, Harry Potter fans can rent this cottage from £195 per a night.

But unlike Hagrid’s extremely humble living quarters, this magical little home is spacious enough to sleep up to six diehard Potterheads thanks to its double bedroom, bunk beds AND lavish leather sofa bed.

In fact, the cottage – which is comprised of three-interlocking circular rooms and cost £195,000 to create – even boasts its own free-standing copper bath in a bathroom paved with stylish emerald green tiles.

And much to our delight, the cottage’s owner Carol Cavendish has also placed a ink bottle and quill – which wouldn’t look out of place in a Hogwarts classroom – in the living room.

In order to make you feel as if you’re actually one of Hagrid’s house guests, the cottage has been littered with old ropes, baskets, leather bags and lanterns.

But while we can only dream of what it would be like to actually have Hagrid host us in his home, guests are allowed to bring their very own pet Fang for a small extra cost.

That is, as long as they’re as well behaved as Hagrid’s guard dog… and a bit less slobbery.

Unsurprisingly, Carol is a diehard fan of the magical franchise and first discovered JK Rowling’s series in her early twenties.

She said: “Books have always been an important part of my life even after being diagnosed with dyslexia when I taught myself to read.

“They’ve also helped me through challenging times when I would turn to the Harry Potter books and Lord of the Rings for pure escapism.

“That’s why it is so fantastic to create an environment where others can also leave behind their everyday life and step into their favourite storybook.

  • What Is a Float Tank? A Beginner’s Guide to Flotation Therapy | The Manual

What Is a Float Tank? A Beginner’s Guide to Flotation Therapy | The Manual

I can see why stepping naked into a five-foot-high windowless box filled knee-high with water might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Personally, the more offbeat an alternative health therapy is, the more eager I am to try it. I’ve meditated in the depths of a Himalayan salt cave. I’ve had brass bowls rubbed against the soles of my feet as a stream of sesame oil was poured into my third eye. I’ve lain supine on a table while a shaman danced around me sporadically beating a wooden drum.

But even I hesitated when the attendant at the float tank spa gestured for me to enter the dark, windowless chamber. What got me over the threshold was remembering the claims I’d heard of what flotation therapy can do.

    Benefits of Flotation Therapy

Flotation therapy was pioneered in the 1950s by neuroscientist and psychoanalyst John C. Lilly, who noted the effects of sensory deprivation on people suffering from anxiety disorders, addiction, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In the decades since, studies have confirmed the beneficial brain activity that happens in a float tank results in hormone regulation, stress relief, pain relief, and improved sleep quality. Some of these benefits last for a few hours after a session, while others last for months.

    Further Reading

How does all this happen through floating on your back in a windowless tank of water? Some of the benefits come from sensory deprivation. It’s a concept that might sound a little scary, but it’s actually proven to minimize stress. As addicted as we are in this modern era to stimulus, spending an hour without feeling, hearing, or seeing anything turns out to be an amazing reset for the body and brain.

Other benefits have to do with the water itself. The water in most flotation tanks is saturated with Epsom salt, also known as magnesium sulfate. Magnesium is a bit of a wonder chemical, especially because most of us don’t get enough of it. Absorbing magnesium through the skin inhibits the release of cortisol (the stress hormone) and coaxes the muscles to relax, which in turn allows for detoxification, healing, and pain relief.

Posted by Float On on Monday, December 31, 2018

Finally, the floating position also offers the benefit of promoting blood flow to the brain, organ,  and limbs, as well as the release of lactic acid from the muscles. Both these effects minimize pain, promote recovery, and improve focus along with flexibility.

What It’s Like Inside a Float Tank

A flotation tank is about 8 feet long and only 5 feet tall, which means you can’t stand up in it. (However, I have been in a tank that was essentially a walled-off, plastic-lined room within a bigger room, but just as dark.)

The thick silence has a curiously comforting effect. There’s nowhere to be but where you are.

Once inside, you lie back, lift up your feet, and let your belly rise. Achieving a back float is sort of a surprise in this small amount of water. You might find yourself trying to keep yourself above the waterline, but it’s not necessary — the body’s natural buoyancy and the density of the Epsom salt in the water ensure that you’ll float without effort.

The water is motionless and the walls are thick, so you hear nothing except perhaps the beat of your heart reverberating in your ears. (If water in your ears bothers you, spas usually supply ear plugs.) The thick silence has a curiously comforting effect. You aren’t cold or hot; you aren’t seeing or hearing or smelling anything. There’s nowhere to be but where you are.

In the absence of stimulus and sensation, you might find your body doing curious things. I found myself twisting and turning gently, the movement originating in my shoulders and lower spine. I would a position for a while, then release. It was as though I were being adjusted by an invisible and exceedingly gentle chiropractor. With each hold and release, I felt myself relax more deeply. Some deeply personal revelations accompanied these motions, as well, arising equally gently.

Theta brainwaves are the longest frequency waves (around 4-8 Hertz) and usually occur during REM sleep or moments of meditation and daydreaming.

Eventually, my body returned to stillness and a tingly euphoria washed over me. As it began to fade, my brain slipped into theta state. This, for me, is the cool part. Theta brainwaves are the longest frequency waves and happen only during sleep or, if you’re lucky, in moments of profound meditation. While in theta state, the senses are able to focus on signals originating from within. It often brings active, highly lucid dreams, long-lost memories, creative visions, and intuitive epiphanies.

It’s hard to describe what this state feels like — it’s like a place between sleep and wakefulness, where you can sort of feel things setting themselves right within your body and mind. Waking up out of it feels like being reborn.

It’s no mystery why people come back for more. The attendant at the location I visited told me that he sees the same people in and out. Business people come in during their lunch breaks or after work. Athletes drop in on their recovery days. Artists visit during creative dry spells. People suffering from chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, and other debilitating health conditions will come in multiple times per week.

They all leave much like I did that afternoon: hair wet, back straight, shoulders open, with a walk that others might describe as — wait for it — floating.

Canada’s economy unexpectedly shrinks as resource sector stalls | Financial Post

Canada’s economy returned to its sluggish ways in February, with a drop in output that will reinforce expectations of a slow start to the year.

Gross domestic product fell 0.1 per cent, taking back some of the 0.3 per cent gain in January in part due to poor weather, Statistics Canada said Tuesday from Ottawa. Economists were estimating output would be unchanged.

The February data are consistent with an economy that continues to grapple with a number of headwinds and may have barely grown in the first quarter of 2019, extending a slump that began at the end of last year.

    Key Insights

The monthly numbers are in line with the Bank of Canada’s pared back expectations for the quarter. Without any more growth in March, Canada’s economy may have come to another near halt in the first three months of the year, as the central bank is now predicting. Policy makers expect the economy to pick up from the second quarter on.

Falling resource production was the main culprit in February, with the mining and oil and gas sector down 1.6 per cent — its sixth consecutive drop. While the oil and gas sector continued to show weakness, the big decline was in mining and quarrying outside of energy. That component fell 4.4 per cent, driven by reduced output of most types of metals.

A tough winter in much of the country also played a role in the contraction, adding to the economy’s woes. This was evident in a 1.6 per cent drop in transportation and warehousing sector, the largest one-month decline for the sector since June 2011. On the flip side, February was a great month for utilities, which saw output jump 1.5 per cent because of the cold.

    Get More

About half of the sectors tracked by Statistics Canada actually posted gains, with increases also recorded by builders, retailers and wholesalers. While conventional oil dropped, the situation in the oilsands seems to be stabilizing. That sector dropped just 0.1 per cent in February, after a 4.1 per cent drop a month earlier. Manufacturing contracted 0.4 per cent, after a 2.1 per cent gain in January that was the largest in nearly to 15 years.

7 Queen Bee Facts: That Will Amaze You

Straight Facts About the Queen Honey Bee

The queen honey bee is undoubtedly the most popular bee in the hive. Everything involving hive life evolves around the queen bee. However, is the queen bee really in charge? Let’s explore some queen bee facts and see!

Man (and woman) have beeninteracting with honey bees for thousands of years. So, we know everything about queen bees by now, right? No, nothing could be farther from the truth.  Many queen bee facts remain unknown.

queen honey bees on comb surrounded by worker bees

Researchers and beekeepers continue to learn new things about all bees.  How bees communicate with each other, how they interact with the environment and the roles played by individual bees are still being studied.  And we have been studying bees for hundreds of years.

We have learned some important things about the most popular bee in the box, the queen bee. Here are some Queen Bee Facts that you need to know to be a successful beekeeper. And if you are not a beekeeper, you may still find them very interesting.

queen honey bee in marking cage - queen bee facts

Queen Bee Facts – #1 Size

How Big Is A Queen Bee?

The queen bee is the largest bee in the honey bee colony.

This is due to her long abdomen containing ovaries to produce a lifetime’s quantity of eggs. The length also allows her to cement an egg into the bottom of a honey comb cell.

Drones (male bees) are often mistaken for a queen by beginning beekeepers. It’s an easy mistake to make. This is especially difficult on a frame with hundreds of bees moving around.

Drones are wider and noticeably different than regular workers, but they cannot compare in length to a mature queen bee.  The number of drones present vary during the warm season.    But, all drones and no workers is a sign of problems with your queen.

drone bee and worker bees on front of a beehive

Another queen bee fact – her size can change!

It is very easy to over-look a young virgin queen in a crowded colony. A new queen can look very similar in size to some of the workers. As she matures and progresses into her egg laying role, she will plump up.

Another situation involving queen size is the time of swarming. Worker bees feed the queen honey bee. When the colony is preparing to duplicate by swarming, a queen bee is fed less.

She will slim down making flight possible. Anyone who has ever stressed to find a slim queen in a hive of 60,000 bees understands the problem.

Queen Bee Facts – #2 – Genetically Like Workers

The queen honey bee develops from a fertilized egg.

Any fertilized egg laid by a queen has the potential to become a queen bee.  The quality and quantity of food feed to bee larva determines reproductive development.

A queen bee shares the same genetic material as thousands of her sisters. For years, it was believed that only royal jelly was responsible for queen development.  Today, researchers are thinking that other food substances may be involved.

How Long Does It Take A Queen Bee to Hatch or Emerge?

The honey bee life cycle is amazing.  Worker bees develop from egg to adult in 21 days.  Drone bees make the same journey in 24 days.

But it only takes 16 days for the most vital bee in the hive to reach adulthood!  From egg to adult queen bees only requires 16 days.

worker honey bees building comb for the queen to lay in

Queen Bee Facts – #3 Her Role in the Hive

What Does the Queen Bee Do?

The queen is not the boss of the hive !

WHAT?! It’s true that she is important. However, it is an amazing queen bee fact that she does not make all the important decisions.

Workers feed the queen inside the colony. She does not feed, groom or clean herself. If the workers don’t feed her, her health suffers. She relies on her “retinue” of workers for her every need.

The queen decides where to lay eggs right?

Yes, that is true but the workers play an important role in that as well. A queen moves across the honeycomb surface checking empty cells.

She measures them with her antenna and front legs. This is to determine whether it is a worker-sized cell or a drone-sized cell.

But, she will not lay an egg if the worker bees have not cleaned and polished the cell.

So if the colony needs drones, the workers construct and or clean drone cells. If no drones are needed, those honeycomb cells will not be prepared for the queen to use.

Now that is one amazing queen bee fact for sure! And we thought she was totally in control of egg laying!

Having a good queen bee is vital to the well being of the colony. So much so, that some beekeepers resort to rearing extra queens to use in their hives or sell to other beekeepers.

It is never a bad idea to have an extra queen on hand for your colonies. A small “nuc” colony can house an extra queen for a while – ready to be used if needed.

Queen Bee Facts – #4 – Smooth Stinger

A queen honey bee does not die if she stings you.

Almost everyone knows that a worker honey bee dies as a result of stinging a person or other mammal. But a queen bee  can sting you and live to talk to about it!

Why? Because a worker bee has the job of colony defense. When bees sting, their barbed stinger sticks in your skin. This causes the stinger and poison sac to rip out and continue to inject venom!

If you get stung by a honey bee, you may try some sting remedies for relief!

A queen bee does not participate in defending the colony. Her stinger is not barbed, it is smooth. She uses her stinger to repeatedly sting other rival virgin queens.  Queen bees rarely sting humans.

    Queen Bee Facts – #5

Queen honey bees do not mate inside the hive.

A few days after emerging from her queen cell, she will take flight on a warm, sunny afternoon. Flying to a location where drone bees are congregated, she will mate in mid-air.

Before her mating flights are completed, the queen honey bee will mate with between 12 and 20 drones.

How does she know where to go? We don’t know the answer to that . (I told you we still had things to learn about bees.)

If the virgin queen mated inside the hive, she would be mating with her brothers. By mating well away from her colony, she is more likely to mate with unrelated drones. This is a good thing because is promotes genetic diversity.

Queen Bee Facts – #6 – They Stay Home

Queen bees just don’t get out a lot. They might be described as home-bodies, or rather, hive-bodies?

Workers take care of her every need. Royal jelly consumed by the queen bee results in little waste products. Fed and cleaned by her daughters, she has no reason to fly.

The queen bee only leaves the hive to mate (when she is young) and if the colony swarms.

    Queen Bee Facts #7

How Honey Bees Recognize Their Queen

Queen Bees Smell Funny. Okay, let me phrase it another way.

Each queen bee has a unique smell. Smell is very important to honey bees. They use odors as a form of communication.

A queen constantly emits pheromones. (These are like our hormones but on the outside.) These pheromones are passed throughout the colony.

Workers spread them by antenna touching and other grooming activities. As the queen bee ages, she emits less pheromones.

Eventually, the colony will make a new (pheromone rich) queen to replace her.  Egg production is highest in young queens and declines over time.

As egg laying and pheromone levels drop, her time is growing short.  She may have the ability to live up to 2 years.  But most colonies replace their queen much sooner.

How Beekeepers Introduce A New Queen

This queen pheromone activity is very important. It is the reason why a beekeeper can not simply drop a new queen in a queen-less colony.

She will smell different than all the other occupants. Workers of the colony view her as a threat and kill her.

Bee suppliers place a new queen in a special cage (queen cage) that is placed inside the hive. This queen cage gives colony members a chance to get to know her.

Hive workers will feed her through the wire and after a period of time (usually 3 – 7 days), she is accepted as the new queen.

I also like to mark my queens, this makes finding and replacing a queen easier. Being able to find your queen is a good skill to perfect. Marked queens are easier to find and good practice.

Don’t be upset if it take you a while to learn how to find a queen bee: marked or not.  It takes time and practice.

Want to practice finding queens? (Wish the quality was better  but its still good practice!) – Video

We know so many things about queen bees and bees in general. But, we have a long way to go to unlock all the mysteries of the honey bee.

I have been studying honey bees for over 10 years and still feel that I know so little. If you are considering beekeeping, I hope you will check out my online beekeeping class. It contains hours of video with practical beekeeping information.

According To NASA’s Clean Air Study, These 10 Plants Are Oxygen Powerhouses

There are various ways to improve the air into your home. The best way to do this is the natural way. Mother nature has everything to improve our health. When the air in your home is stagnated you become tired, listless, you can get headaches. Your eyes could get irritated. Germs stay in the house if it is not getting enough fresh air. The best way to get fresh clean air into your home is bringing plants that NASA says is the oxygen bomb, or you could open your windows to allow a breeze though your home, maybe purchase an air purifier to clean and purify the air. Air purifiers are not cost effective. National Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA) along with the Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA) compiled a list of effective air-filtering plants as part of the NASA Clean Air Study. The research concluded that various plants could eliminate significant amounts of trichloroethyline, benzene, and formaldehyde from the air. They recommended for those that would like to benefit should ensure that in every 100 sq feet there should be at least one recommended plant. Below are a few of the common plants found in homes around the world and easy to find.
