Morehouse commencement speaker to pay off Class of 2019’s student loans

Billionaire Robert F. Smith, who received an honorary doctorate at Morehouse College’s Sunday morning graduation exercises, had already announced a $1.5 million gift to the school.  But during his remarks in front of the nearly 400 graduating seniors, the technology investor and philanthropist surprised nearly everyone by announcing that his family was providing a grant to eliminate the student debt of the entire Class of 2019.   “This is my class,” he said, “and I know my class will pay this forward.”  The announcement came as a surprise to Smith’s staff and to the staff at Morehouse, and elicited the biggest cheers of the morning.  Tonga Releford, whose son Charles Releford III is a member of the Class of 2019, estimates that his student loans are about $70,000.  “I feel like it’s Mother’s Day all over again,” she said.  The gift has been estimated to be worth up to $40 million.

  • Britney Spears May Never Perform Again, Manager Says

Britney Spears May Never Perform Again, Manager Says

longtime manager Larry Rudolph says the singer may never perform again. Speaking to TMZ, Rudolph said, “As the person who guides her career — based on the information I and all of the professionals who work with her are being told on a need-to-know basis — from what I have gathered it’s clear to me she should not be going back to do this Vegas residency, not in the near future and possibly never again.”

Rudolph has managed Spears for most of her career, going back to her first album, “Baby… One More Time,” in 1999. “I’ve been with her for two-thirds of her life,” he tells Variety. “I look at her almost like I look at my own daughter. It’s very emotional for me … and really rough. Personally, I want for her to just find a peaceful, happy place — whatever that means for her. It’s not about a career anymore — it’s about life.”

The singer is scheduled to undergo psychological evaluation after postponing her Las Vegas residency in the wake of her father’s recent treatment for a ruptured colon. Rudolph says that, though Spears had rehearsed the show (the residency was due to launch on February 13), the Vegas engagement is effectively off, which is what prompted his speaking out in the early hours of May 15.

The decision was made “not to move forward with the Vegas residency,” he explains, adding that the question of what she’s going to do next is not the focus Spears or her family is concerned with right now. “She’s taking time to regroup and get her head together,” says Rudolph. “She’s putting herself ahead of everyone else, and I’m proud of her for that. If she never works again, she never works again. My role is to handle her career when she wants a career. If she comes back strong and full of desire and passion and wants to do it, great. If she takes off six months or six years, it’s totally fine. To me, it’s about her finding her happy place.”

Spears’ father Jamie Spears has been her co-conservator since 2008 when she suffered a very public breakdown. He became sole conservator this year after attorney Andrew Wallet resigned from his co-conservatorship in March. Jamie Spears’ recovery from his ailment evidently has not been smooth; after postponing her residency, Britney later checked herself into a health facility for a month-long stay, suffering from stress due to his illness.

Rudolph says that “[Britney] is the one whose focus is on on [getting better]. She’s driving it.” This runs contrary to the belief put forward by the “Free Britney” movement that she’s effectively imprisoned against her will. “I understand how much these fans love her and support her and I love that,” says Rudolph. “The part that concerns me is that it has no factual basis. The personal issues that Britney is dealing with are highly complicated and the conservatorship is there for a reason. The courts of the State of California take this very seriously. I hope the people allow her to have her private time.”

Giant 7ft 6in basketballer set to take NBA by storm as draft looms

If he snags a spot in the league, he will be tied with Shawn Bradley and Yao Ming as the second tallest players it has ever seen.  A photo of him stood next to sideline analyst Tracy Wolfs went viral earlier this year – with his hand seemingly as big as her torso.  Fall said of his role: “Stay true to myself and do what I do well, I’m a great defensive player.  “I can impact the game in that way the most.” “The way I started, I had a lot of help. Just me having the opportunity to go back to my country, give back, have camps, help kids and do all those type of things is something I want to invest my time in.”  Several scouts have been keenly watching Fall and fancy his chances of getting through.  One said this week: “The guy who’s been surprising to me has been Tacko Fall.  “He impressed me a little bit more Monday than he did during the season.  “Just with his size, you worry about him a little bit defensively but you can’t teach 7-6.”

  • Leaked Records Reveal Tony Robbins Berated Abuse Victims, And Former Followers Accuse Him Of Sexual Advances

Leaked Records Reveal Tony Robbins Berated Abuse Victims, And Former Followers Accuse Him Of Sexual Advances

Tony Robbins claims he has helped millions of fans overcome some of life’s darkest difficulties. But leaked records reveal he has used his fame to berate victims of rape and violence, while female former staffers and followers have accused him of inappropriate sexual advances.

When Tony Robbins leaps onstage in arenas around the world, under strobe lights and pulsing speakers, he’s greeted by thousands of screaming fans. They clap with him, jump with him, and when he puffs his chest and lets out a primal roar, they roar with him too.

The world’s most famous self-help guru whips crowds into fits of euphoria few pop stars could dream of, but many of his fans are grappling with life’s most serious problems. Victims of sexual and physical abuse, along with people who struggle with addiction and have mental illnesses, pay thousands of dollars to see him on the promise he has the power to “transform your life” and “rewire your brain.”

At the core of Robbins’ teachings is the message that his followers should not see themselves as victims, and should instead view their pain as something they have the power to “destroy.” He claims to have revolutionized millions of lives with this philosophy, while building a multibillion-dollar business and working with celebrities from Donald Trump and Bill Clinton to Oprah and the Kardashians. Access to his most exclusive membership program has cost as much as $85,000 a year.

But behind that dazzling veneer, Robbins guards his empire with intense secrecy. Employees are bound by strict confidentiality agreements, and audiences who attend his multiday coaching camps must sign contracts forbidding them from recording what goes on inside.

A yearlong investigation by BuzzFeed News, based on leaked recordings, internal documents, and dozens of interviews with fans and insiders, reveals how Robbins has berated abuse victims and subjected his followers to unorthodox and potentially dangerous techniques. And former female fans and staffers have accused him of inappropriate sexual advances.

Two former followers who went on to work for Robbins provided BuzzFeed News with signed statements swearing under oath that they felt he had sexually harassed them by repeatedly pursuing them after they made clear they weren’t interested. Two more women who worked as his assistants said Robbins expected them to work alone with him when he was naked in his hotel room or in the shower. And another former employee said she was fired after having a consensual sexual relationship with Robbins. The events described by all five women took place in the 1990s and early 2000s, when Robbins’ fame was skyrocketing and before he married his second wife.

FORMER Corrie star Catherine Tyldesley has hit out at the 12-hour days she spent filming the show, saying they took over her life.

The actress said: It was ‘7am to 7pm every day at Corrie’[/caption]

And in perhaps the biggest blow, Catherine – who played Eva Price – insisted she doesn’t even watch the show these days.

The actress, who was on the soap between 2011 and 2018, added she was spending more time with four-year-old son Archie after quitting last year, the Star reports.

They quote her as saying: “It was 7am to 7pm every day at Corrie. Those are moments in your life you never get back.

“I love spending more time with my little boy now. I’ve not managed to watch it. I’m too busy.”

Taking much of the flak for this current Corrie crisis is controversial new boss Iain MacLeod — who took over a year ago.

He has borne the brunt of grumbling both on set and among fans.

Discontent behind the scenes has been gathering momentum for some time, driven largely by the big disparity among the actors’ pay packets.

  • Sofia Richie Flashes Lace Bra In Sexy See-Through Shirt

Sofia Richie Flashes Lace Bra In Sexy See-Through Shirt

Sofia Richie is leaving little to the imagination in her latest social media post. The model dons a completely see-through shirt and gives fans a peek at her sexy lace bra underneath.

On Tuesday night, Sofia Richie took to her Instagram account to share a photo of herself wearing a very skimpy outfit. Scott Disick’s girlfriend is seen sporting a see-through, long-sleeved, black shirt that gives fans a look at her lacy black bra underneath.

Richie’s ample cleavage is on full display, and her flat tummy can be easily seen as well. Sofia, who is the daughter of music legend Lionel Richie, has her blonde hair parted down the middle and styled in loose waves that fall down her back.

The model also sports a full face of makeup in the sexy snapshot. Sofia is seen donning a bronzed glow, darkened eyebrows, and understated eyes. She also wears pink blush, some highlighter to give her extra shimmer, and light pink color on her lips.

However, the highlight of the photo isn’t Sofia’s see-through top. Instead, fans eyes are likely headed for the gorgeous diamond jewelry the model is wearing all over her body.

Sofia is seen sporting a tiara, diamond rings on all of her fingers, and diamond bracelets on both wrists. She reveals in the caption that she feels like a princess.

A post shared by Sofia Richie (@sofiarichie) on

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, Sofia Richie may be looking for her very own large diamond ring in the near future.

Sources tell Radar Online that the model has been putting pressure on her boyfriend, Scott Disick, to pop the question to her.

“Sofia keeps pressuring Scott to pop the question and thinks that this is the perfect time to do so. Although Scott is telling her to slow down, she is not going to. She really feels like they need to get married and have some babies,” an insider tells the outlet.

“Scott is hesitant because he doesn’t want things to change between them right now. She keeps him feeling young and they don’t need rings to be in love,” the source added.

Meanwhile, Disick’s baby mama, Kourtney Kardashian, is said to be on board with whatever Scott wants to do, as long as he’s happy.

“She just wants Scott to be happy and she is proud of him for turning his life around. Sofia is young but Kourtney knows that what they have is special,” the insider dished.

Fans can see more of Sofia Richie by following her on Instagram.

A look back at Doris Day’s most celebrated roles – video obituary | Film | The Guardian

The actor, singer and animal welfare activist has died at the age of 97. Day was known for a string of successful musicals and romantic comedies, as well as a rich singing career.

Hollywood Actress Doris Day Dead at 97 | TMZ.com

Doris Day, one of the biggest movie stars in the ’50s and ’60s who became a fierce proponent of animal rights, is dead.

The Doris Day Animal Foundation confirmed her death. She died at her home in Carmel Valley, CA, surrounded by close friends. The Foundation said Day “had been in excellent physical health for her age, until recently contracting a serious case of pneumonia.”

Doris became a star in 1956, when she appeared alongside Jimmy Stewart in Alfred Hitchcock‘s “The Man Who Knew Too Much.” She then hit even bigger the next year, starring in “The Pajama Game.”

Day became tied at the hip onscreen, beginning in 1959, with Rock Hudson … the 2 starred in “Pillow Talk,” for which she received an Academy Award nom for Best Actress.

You can’t understate the star power of the quintessential girl next door … she was voted Top Box Office Female Star for 4 straight years in the early ’60s.

As big as her movie career was … she was equally famous for her singing. She went to the top of the charts with her 1956 song, “Que Sera Sera.” In 2008, Doris was awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Day briefly dated Ronald Reagan back in the ’50s. She was married 4 times.

Her influence was enduring. She was referenced in The Beatles‘ song “Dig It,” Billy Joel‘s “We Didn’t Start the Fire” and Wham!’s “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go.”

Doris got the Presidential Medal of Freedom award in 2004 from President George Bush, but her fear of flying prevented her from attending the White House ceremony.

Day’s son, Terry Melcher, became a famous and successful music producer, working with The Beach Boys for many years.  He notoriously put a song written by Charles Manson on a Beach Boys’ single, but when Melcher distanced himself from Manson the future murderer targeted him.  In fact, it’s widely believed the Tate murders were really directed at Melcher and his then-girlfriend, Candice Bergen, who had been renting the Tate home until just weeks before the murder.

She loved animals … at one time she had 30 dogs living on her property.

Doris was one of the founders of Actors and Others for Animals in 1971 and in the late 70’s she started The Doris Day Foundation.   She has 2 stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame — one for movies, and one for her music.
