  • 47 members of Jimmy Buffett fan club fall ill vacationing in the Dominican Republic

47 members of Jimmy Buffett fan club fall ill vacationing in the Dominican Republic

Over the last year, at least seven Americans have died and hundreds more have fallen violently ill while visiting Dominican Republic hotels and resorts. That includes a group of Jimmy Buffett super fans who got sick while vacationing in Punta Cana this past April.

According to PEOPLE, of the 114 “Parrotheads” who checked into the Hotel Riu Palace Macao, 47 experienced “diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness, and headaches.”

Dana Flowers, a member of the Central Oklahoma Parrothead Association (who also serves as the group’s travel agent), told PEOPLE that everyone who became sick either swam in one specific pool or drank at the swim-up bar. When they sought medical treatment, the resort’s on-site doctor prescribed a medicine for parasites. [They] didn’t do any testing, they just automatically gave them medicine for parasites,” Flowers said. Upon returning home from the trip, two members of the group tested positive for salmonella.

Flowers herself claims to have lost 14 pounds due to the illness. She said many fellow Parrotheads still aren’t feeling “normal” months after the trip.

In a statement, Hotel Riu Palace Macao said, “We are aware that three guests staying last April at this hotel and coming from the same group … were attended by a possible case of gastroenteritis in our doctor’s office. These events occurred after an external activity of this group outside the hotel, so we can not determine the exact origin of the stomach upset. … No more similar cases were registered by other guests during the indicated date above.”

Meanwhile, the FBI and CDC have launched investigations into the ongoing health crisis in the Dominican Republic.

Watch Tom Morello launch selfie-taking fan’s phone into the crowd

Tom Morello was just one of the artists who played at last weekend’s 1010WKQK’s Piqniq festival at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre at Tinley Park, Illinois.

During his performance, he invited fans up on to the stage while he played. But one was left red-faced when he attempted to take a selfie with Morello.

As can be seen in the video footage below, Morello was having none of it and grabbed the phone and threw it into the main crowd.

Morello later reacted to the moment on Twitter, saying: “Put a phone in my face onstage and I’ll throw it. #LiveInTheMoment. Great fun today at the 101WKQX show. #SweetHomeChicago.”

The guitarist later received some flak on Twitter about the incident, to which Morello responded: “When you invite guests to your stage and clearly tell them, ‘If you stick a cell phone in my face I will throw it’ and then their uncontrollable entitled selfie urges overcome their sense of reason, they get their f*ckin phones thrown. Simple.”

He later added the fan got his phone back.

Last month, Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford hit the headlines when he booted the phone from the hands on a front row fan during their set at the Rosemont Theatre in Illinois.

He later explained: “The facts are we love our fans and you can film us all you like and watch our show on your phone rather than in the flesh.

“However, if you physically interfere with the Metal God’s performance, you now know what will happen.”

Morello and Halford join a growing list of musicians who have reacted to fans with phones at concerts in recent years, including A Perfect CircleGreen DaySlipknot’s Corey TaylorDisturbed and Peter Frampton.

  • DMX Reports for Duty as Detective on Set of ‘Chronicle of a Serial Killer’

DMX Reports for Duty as Detective on Set of ‘Chronicle of a Serial Killer’

DMX is resuming his acting career, but in a role most would consider a stretch … ’cause now he’s playing Johnny Law and busting bad guys. It’s called “range” in the biz.

We got this shot of DMX on the set of the upcoming film, “Chronicle of a Serial Killer” … and he’s fully embracing the role of a cop, badge and all! It’s a pretty striking image, considering X’s lengthy rap sheet.

The movie features Brendan Sexton as a serial murderer … and DMX is playing Detective White, who’s trying to track down the killer. Tara Reid, Eric Roberts and Aly Mang are also starring in the film.

TMZ broke the story … Michael Madsen was booted from the cast because of his recent DUI charge, and as it turns out … DMX was tabbed to fill Michael’s shoes.

The director, Steve Stanulis, tells TMZ … when his casting director suggested X for the role, he knew it was a perfect fit, and the rapper didn’t even have to audition. Steve says he has no doubt DMX is “going to bring a different dynamic to the role.”

Filming just started in New York, and Steve says he’s excited to bring DMX into the fold.

No word on if X gets to work with the K-9 unit.

Bella Thorne Rips Whoopi Goldberg For Shaming Nude Photos on ‘The View’

Bella Thorne is firing back at Whoopi Goldberg after she seemingly shamed Bella for having nude photos on her phone, on the cloud, or anywhere.

In a series of super emotional posts Tuesday, Bella tearfully blasted Whoopi … who took the stance on “The View” that celebs who take nude photos are just asking for trouble with hackers and, essentially, said they should know better.

Bella said Whoopi’s comment only inflames a painful situation. She also suggested Whoopi’s lack of sympathy toward young people who get exposed this way is part of the reason people commit suicide after their nudes are leaked.

In case you missed it … Bella’s Twitter was hacked last week, and over the weekend she posted a series of topless photos in order to beat her alleged hacker to the punch. She says the person was attempting to extort her with the racy pics.

Whoopi, Meghan McCain, Sunny Hostin and Joy Behar debated the issue in Monday’s episode of “The View” … and their convo clearly triggered Bella.

Bella says she’s not going on “The View” anymore, because she doesn’t want to be judged by a bunch of older women … and she’s calling out the hosts for brainwashing the next generation and accusing them of some serious double standards.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry share photo of son Archie

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor has his father wrapped around his finger — at least he does in a new photo Prince Harry and the former Meghan Markle shared on Sunday.

In the photo posted on their official Instagram account, Harry is cradling Archie whose tiny hand is wrapped around one of Harry’s fingers.

“Happy Father’s Day! And wishing a very special first Father’s Day to The Duke of Sussex,” the photo caption reads.

The photo is similar to one Harry and Meghan, who is now known as the Duchess of Sussex, shared last month marking her first Mother’s Day.

Harry, 34, and Meghan, 37, welcomed their first born on May 6. He was introduced to the world two days later.

The baby arrived just short of a year after Harry and Meghan’s star-studded wedding. He is the first interracial baby in the British monarchy’s recent history and is seventh in line to the British throne. The couple opted not to use a title for their son.

He will be known as Master Archie, in agreement with his father’s wish that he grow up as a private citizen.

  • Vogue is Teaching Girls How to Bypass Parents for Abortion

Vogue is Teaching Girls How to Bypass Parents for Abortion

What is wrong with some people.  Does Teen Vogue want a landslide of lawsuits?  Anytime you start giving medical advice you are liable.  Why does Teen Vogue concern itself with such issues?  Did they also comment about abstaining, or option of adoption?    Elizabeth Johnston is facing off with Teen Vogue after the magazine posted an article giving teens instructions on how to get an abortion without telling their parents. Johnston is the self-described “Activist Mommy” and her conservative videos on subjects like marriage, sex, and abortion usually go viral. She recently voiced concern over an article that listed the logistics of getting an abortion without parental consent. The June 6th article on sexual health and identity mentions that it’s tricky for teenaged girls to get an abortion. The author teaches them about states that don’t require parental consent, and how to obtain a judicial bypass if they don’t want their parents involved in the abortion decision.

Johnston says a teen can find better counsel than a magazine columnist on the issue of abortion, even if her parents aren’t available. She encourages parents on her blog, “Build up and nurture your relationships with your own children. Despite our best intentions in parenting, the day may come when our sons or daughters come to us with the news of an unplanned pregnancy. If it does, we must do as God commands and love them, guide them, and care for them and their precious child.” Despite the print version of the magazine being pulled from shelves, the website continues to offer teens liberal advice on sexuality.
