Japanese brand Muji and Finnish autonomous-driving company Sensible 4 launched the self-driving Gacha bus last week in Helsinki, which is fit for all weather conditions.

First revealed as renders just four months ago, the driverless Gacha shuttle bus has now made its maiden journey, which took place in front of the Helsinki Central Library Oodi in the Finnish capital on 8 March.

According to Muji and Sensible 4, it is the first autonomous bus in the world that is able to drive in all types of weather, including heavy rain, fog and snow.

The bus is expected to begin operating for the general public in Espoo, Finland, in April this year, before being rolled out to Hämeenlinna, Vantaa and Helsinki later in 2019.

“The Gacha development got started when the Sensible 4 team, working back then with the first generation of robot buses, noticed that they just don’t perform at all even in light rain, not to mention the typical winter conditions in Finland,” said Sensible 4 CEO Harri Santamala.

“Completely autonomous self-driving technology is not here yet. Most self-driving cars can operate only in ideal weather conditions and well-marked roads.”

“This is what Sensible 4 has managed to change through repeated tests in the harsh winter conditions of the Finnish Lapland,” Santamala added.

Users can order the on-demand bus via a ride-hailing app on their smartphone, and simply get on when it approaches them.

It also connects them with existing transportation services, so that they can select the best route and transportation methods according to the situation, and transfer between different services with ease.

While Muji supplied the minimal design of the vehicle, Sensible 4 provided the driverless technology, which includes using digital mapping and sensor technology to detect and avoid any obstacles.

The autonomous system runs while simultaneously tracing a digital map, like an “invisible railway”.

According to Muji, the inspiration for the design came from a “toy capsule” – they wanted it to represent “a universal shape that embodies joy and excitement, bringing peace and happiness to those who encounter it”.

With no driver, the exterior of the bus has no defined front or rear. This also frees up space inside, where bench-style seating follows the vehicle’s soft, rounded shape, offering more space for passengers.

An LED belt around the exterior of the bus serves as both headlights and a communication screen, informing other vehicles and passersby of the vehicle’s movements.

The two companies envision fleets of the self-driving shuttles to operate as part of the cities’ existing public transportation systems in 2021, with the hope of later establishing partnerships with other cities across the globe.

They also believe Gacha will be especially useful in areas with limited mobility, as well as regions that have suffered population decline where there are few supermarkets and public facilities.

Swedish car manufacturer Volvo also recently revealed a driverless electric bus that can carry up to 93 people. The 12-metre long AB 7900 bus is set to undergo testing before being put into operation on Singapore’s roads.

  • Ivanka Trump’s Perfume Rises to Bestseller on Amazon

Ivanka Trump’s Perfume Rises to Bestseller on Amazon

Although there is some evidence showing that Ivanka’s product sales have taken a hit recently, her perfume has jumped to the top spot on Amazon.

Ivanka Trump’s brand of clothing, shoes and accessories has been at the center of a tempest since her father was elected president. On the left, calls to boycott retailers that carried merchandise bearing the Trump name crescendoed as a way to protest President Trump. Earlier this month, the brand took its latest hit after Nordstrom became the latest retailer to drop Ivanka Trump-branded items.

But on Amazon.com this week, the brand reclaimed a small victory: Ivanka Trump’s perfume suddenly jumped to the top spot on the list of the online retailer’s best-selling fragrances, as first reported Thursday by conservative news site Townhall.

A bevy of new reviews for the perfume also appeared on the product page. While some were apolitical, many indicated they had purchased the product — or at least were posting about it — in support of the president and his daughter.

The sales jump appears to be driven in part by a backlash to a boycott of Trump-branded merchandise. Since last fall, the Grab Your Wallet campaign has persistently encouraged consumers to boycott retailers that carry Trump-branded items. Stores that have said they would drop such merchandise have included Neiman Marcus, Kmart and Sears.

Panjiva, a global trade data company, says that imports of products that bear the Ivanka Trump name were 54.4 percent lower in the three months ended Jan. 31 compared with the three months that ended Sept. 30, the period that represents the peak of imports of that brand in Panjiva’s records.

Most notably, earlier this month Nordstrom said it would no longer carry Ivanka Trump-branded clothing and shoes. The department store said it was dropping the line because of flagging sales, not politics. Read more…

I think the reason her perfume has done so well is that Amazon is so accessible to so many people that it’s an easy way for people to show their support. While her other products may not be as easy to purchase if they’re not being sold at a store near you, her perfume is easy to buy through Amazon.

  • Limbaugh Loved Trump’s Press Conference

    Limbaugh Loved Trump’s Press Conference

Limbaugh had some very positive things to say about Trump’s recent press conference… saying:

This was one of the most effective press conferences I have ever seen”

Limbaugh said while the media still won’t warm up to Trump, it was what his supporters wanted to see, which was a willingness to tout his achievements and take on some of the claims from the media.

“You know it is hard to say — you get caught up in the moment,” Limbaugh said. “But this was one of the most effective press conferences I have ever seen. The press is going to hate him even more after this. Don’t misunderstand. When I say effective, I’m talking about rallying people who voted for him to stay with him. He made a point — ‘What chaos? You’re reporting chaos. We’re not in chaos. We’re a well-oiled machine. We got one of the smoothest running machines in the history of machines. We got one of the best administrations in the history of administrations.’”

“And he rattled off the achievements they’ve had here that the media is not reporting because they’re so focused on whether or not Trump worked with Russia to screw Hillary out of the presidency,” he continued. “And he was reassuring the people he’s on top of everything. Nothing has changed. Everything he campaigned on, he is doing. All he is doing is fulfilling campaign promises. And of course, the Democrats don’t like him. Of course, the media don’t like him. It isn’t going to stop him.” Read more…

  • Sears and Kmart Remove Trump Products from Websites

Sears and Kmart Remove Trump Products from Websites

Items from Trump Home, which is part of the Trump Organization, were reportedly not available on both websites and did not appear in a search of either website as of Friday.

Sears sold 19 Trump Home items on their website and Kmart sold 13 Trump Home items on their website as of Tuesday, according to brand strategist Shannon Coulter, who started the #GrabYourWallet Trump boycott.

Coulter has been tracking which retailers do business with the Trump family on the Grab Your Wallet website since October.  Read more…

It’s interesting that this report comes after Nordstrom dropped Ivanka Trump’s merchandise and TJ Maxx pulled advertising for her products.  Sears claims that this isn’t intentional against Trump but that it’s merely a way for them to streamline which products are most profitable. I think it’s obvious that this is more than a coincidence though.

  • Richard Gere Speaks Against Trump

    Richard Gere Speaks Against Trump

Richard Gere believes Trump is making things worse. He thinks President Trump is causing refugees and terrorists to mean the same thing.

“The number of hate crimes went up enormously as soon as Donald Trump started running for president, in the United States and in Europe,” Gere told an audience at the festival, according to Deadline.

Unfortunately, a lot of the crimes committed have been from people who are mad that Trump was elected President. You also have a LOT of people that George Soros has funded to cause problems. So if someone is doing the right thing, and that causes people to be upset about that, do you blame the person doing the right thing?

    Gere goes on to say:

“Unfortunately, we have leaders that stimulate fear, and that fear causes us to do really terrible things. I think that’s part of what we’re talking about in the film. We have to be really careful how we talk to each other and characterize each other. The most horrible thing Trump has done is conflate the terms refugee and terrorist. It means the same thing in the U.S. now. A refugee used to be someone who you had empathy for, who you wanted to help and give refuge to. Now we’re afraid of them. We have to really understand what he and this conservative movement has done and not forget we’re all in this together. We can’t escape each other’s realities. We have to embrace each other and love each other.” Read More: Richard Gere Rips Trump Immigration Policy: We Must ‘Embrace and Love’ Each Other

Of course embracing and loving people is a good thing, but does it really make sense to embrace someone who is trying to kill you?

Matthew McConaughey wants Hollywood to give Donald Trump a chance

Matthew McConaughey has some practical advice for those in Hollywood who are opposed to Trump:

The 47-year-old said it’s okay to strongly disagree with some of Trump’s policies but it’s important to wait and see how his first term in office plays out.

“So anyone, even those who may strongly disagree with his principles or things he’s said and done — and that’s another thing, we’ll see what he does compares to what he has said — no matter how much you even disagreed along the way, it’s time to think about how constructive can you be,” he shared.

  • Iraqi archbishop hopeful Trump will aid Christians

Iraqi archbishop hopeful Trump will aid Christians

Iraqi Archbishop Bashar Warda (C) the Chaldean Archbishop of Arbil, says that he is hopeful that the Trump Administration will do more to provide assistance to Christians and other religious minorities in Northern Iraq.  (Reuters)

“How is it possible that a community suffered genocide, that has seen its numbers decline by more than 8 in 10 in a little over a decade, [receives] nothing at all from the American government that is funding countless humanitarian projects for internally displaced persons in this country?” he said.

The Christian population in Iraq alone has plummeted from 1.5 million in 2003 to current estimates of 275,000 and could be gone for good within five years if no action is taken, according to a November 2015 report from international Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need. The dwindling numbers are due to genocide, refugees fleeing to other countries, internal displacement and others who either hide or disavow their faith.

It has been estimated that a dozen Christian families flee Iraq each day. Christians who have managed to escape ISIS have fled to places like Europe and Lebanon, while members of the faith also are under increasing pressure in Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and other Gulf nations.

“The fact is, unless aid is specifically targeted to these small and fragile communities, they don’t get it, and without U.S. government and UN assistance, the likelihood that these communities will disappear increases substantially,” Walther said.

  • Construction of Wall Will Begin in Months

Construction of Wall Will Begin in Months

President Donald Trump told ABC News anchor David Muir that Mexico would be paying for the proposed border wall and that negotiations between the two nations would begin “relatively soon.”

“Ultimately, it will come out of what’s happening with Mexico … and we will be in a form reimbursed by Mexico, which I’ve always said,” Trump said.

During the interview, which took place at the White House this morning, Trump said that Mexico would pay the U.S. back “100 percent.”

He confirmed that U.S. taxpayer dollars would be used to start the construction but said reimbursement would follow.

“All it is, is we’ll be reimbursed at a later date from whatever transaction we make from Mexico,” he said. “I’m just telling you there will be a payment. It will be in a form, perhaps a complicated form. What I’m doing is good for the United States. It’s also going to be good for Mexico. We want to have a very stable, very solid Mexico.”

When asked about the start of construction, Trump said it would happen in “months.”

“As soon as we can, as soon as we can physically do it,” he said. “I would say in months, yeah. I would say in months — certainly planning is starting immediately.”

  • Obama Care Update

    Obama Care Update

There is a lot of evidence pointing to the fact that changes are coming to Obama care. It’s still early to tell how things will look. However, a plan has been suggested that would give control to states, to allow them to decide what they want to do. If Obama care is working for a state, they can keep it. If a state wants to do something different, they can receive the same funding they would have received for Obama care and put that towards something different that would work better for their state.
